SCHEDULE.
Opotiki and Waioeka Road.
This road commences at the junction of the Opotiki
and Otara Road, near the southern boundary of the
military township of Opotiki, in block known as
Town Belt, in the Parish of Waioeka, and runs in a
south-westerly direction for about 15 chains, and
is bounded on the North-west side by lots Nos. 6 and
7, on the South-east by lot No. 23; thence in a
south-easterly direction for about 39 chains, and
bounded on South-west side by lots Nos. 7 and
8, public road boundary between Town Belt and
country land, and section No. 1, country land; and
on the North-east side by lot No. 22, public road,
and section No. 40 of country land; thence in a
south and westerly direction for about twenty-five
chains, bounded on the West by sections Nos. 2 and
3, and on the East by sections Nos. 40 and 41;
thence in a south-west direction about 4 chains,
and bounded on the North-west side by section
No. 3, and on the South-east side by section No.
53; thence in a southerly direction for about 269
chains, bounded on the West by sections Nos. 3, 4,
5, 6, 7, public road, sections 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14,
15, public road, 16, 17, and 18; and on the East by
sections Nos. 53, 54, public road, sections 57, 58, 59,
and 60, public road, section No. 62 (West), 64, 66, 68,
70, public road, sections 72, 73, 75, 77, public road,
79 and 81; thence in a south-easterly direction for
about 4 chains, bounded on the South-west side
by section No. 18, and on North-east side by section
No. 81.
The whole of the road line, from commencement
to termination, is delineated by a red line on the plan
referred to in the body of this Proclamation, and
marked No. 1; the breadth of said road being one
chain, and the estimated length thereof four and a
half miles.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Immigration and Public
Works Act, 1870," it is amongst other things
enacted that the Governor, from time to time, by
Proclamation published in the New Zealand Gazette,
may, as to parts within the North Island of New
Zealand, define the roads and the boundaries thereof,
and the bridges and ferries, which shall be and be
deemed to be roads, bridges, or ferries, as the case
may be, under the provisions of the said Act, and any
such Proclamation may include existing roads, but no
such roads or parts of roads shall be included if they
are, in the opinion of the Governor in Council, roads
which should be constructed by the Superintendent
and the Provincial Council of the Province wherein
such roads are situated (as well as new road lines);
and the Governor from time to time may revoke or
alter any such Proclamation: And whereas in the
opinion of me, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Governor
of New Zealand, and the Executive Council of New
Zealand, the road defined in the Schedule hereunto
is not a road which should be constructed by the
Superintendent and the Provincial Council of the
Province of Auckland:
Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance
of the power and authority in me vested by the said
Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that the road
within the North Island of New Zealand described,
and the boundaries whereof are set forth in the
Schedule hereto, and which road is delineated on a
plan numbered I., deposited in the Office of the Public
Works Department at Wellington, in the Province
of Wellington, and thereon coloured red, and which
plan is authenticated for the purposes of this Procla-
mation by the signature of the Honorable William
Gisborne, the Minister for Public Works, shall be
and be deemed to be a road under the provisions of
the said Act.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, this thirty-
first day of July, in the year of our Lord

easterly direction for about 14 chains, and bounded
on the South-westerly side by public road and lot 5,
public road, lot 23; and on the North-easterly side
by public road, lots 13 and 20; thence in a south-
east direction, about 23 chains; bounded on the
South-westerly side by lots 23, 22, and 21, and on the
North-easterly side by lots 20 and 19; thence in an
east and southerly direction, 26 chains to end of
Town Belt Block; and bounded on South-westerly side
by lot 21, and on the North-east side by lot No. 19;
thence in a south-easterly direction, 139 chains;
and bounded on the South-westerly side by public
road, sections 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, public road, sec-
tions 117, 118, and 120, and on the North-easterly
side by public road, sections 46, 47, 48, public road,
sections Nos. 305, 141, 143, 145, 146, 147; thence in
an east and southerly direction about 11 chains,
and bounded on the South-west side by section 122,
and on the North-east by section 147, public road,
section 154; thence in a south-easterly direction
about 143 chains, and bounded on the South-westerly
side by sections 122, 124, 126, and 128, public road,
130, 131, 134, 135, and 139, and on the North-east
side by sections Nos. 154, 155, 156, and 157, public
road, sections Nos. 162, 163, public road, sections
Nos. 164, 165, and 166; thence in an east and
southerly direction about 22 chains, bounded on
South-west side by Crown Lands, and on the North-
east side by section No. 166; thence in a south-
easterly direction about 17 chains to bank of Otara
River, bounded on South-west side by Crown lands,
and on the North-east by section No. 166.
