CENSUS OF NEW ZEALAND, FEBRUARY, 1871.
Registrar-General's Office, Wellington, 22nd May, 1871.
THE following Tables, showing the Numbers of the Population (exclusive of Aboriginal Natives) in the
respective Provinces of Canterbury, and Otago (as before the Union with Southland), as ascertained
by a Census taken for the night of the 27th February, 1871, are published for general information—in
addition to similar Tables for Taranaki, Wellington, Hawke's Bay, and Marlborough, which appeared in
the Gazette, No. 27, of the 13th instant. The figures, it is to be understood, are subject to subsequent
revision, but it is not probable that this will lead to any alteration of practical importance.
