of the law was carried into execution on the body
of Anthony Noble, convicted at the Criminal
Session of the Supreme Court held at Hokitika, on
the sixteenth day of January last, and sentenced to
death, and that the said Anthony Noble was in
pursuance of the said sentence hanged by the neck
until his body was dead.

Dated this sixteenth day of February, in the
year 1871, at the Upper Gaol of Hokitika.

WHEREAS by the Regulations for the sale and
disposal of Lands taken under the authority
of "The New Zealand Settlements Act, 1863," and
"The New Zealand Settlements Amendment and
Continuance Act, 1865," contained in the Schedule
to an Order in Council made and issued, bearing date
the thirteenth day of April, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy, it is provided that reserves for
roads, and all other public purposes whatever, and for
education, and the sites of churches and chapels or
other places of worship for different religious denomi-
nations, may be made by Government out of any con-
fiscated lands, and that notices of all such reserves
shall be published in the New Zealand Gazette: It
is hereby notified, that the Land specified in the
Schedule hereunder written shall be reserved as a
site for a building to be devoted to school and public
purposes during the week, and to divine worship
and Sunday schooling open to all denominations on
the Sabbath.

LAND TRANSFER ACT NOTICE.

Lands Registry Office, Christchurch.
WHEREAS the persons named at foot hereof
have each respectively for himself made ap-
plication to have the land set forth and described
after his name brought under the operation of
"The Land Transfer Act, 1870," notice is hereby
given, that unless caveat be lodged with the District
Land Registrar of the District of Canterbury, by
some person having estate or interest in the said
lands, on or before the date herein below for each
case specified, the said pieces of land will be brought
under the operation of the said Act as by law
directed. Diagrams delineating these parcels of
land may be inspected at the Land Registry Office,
Christchurch.

JOHN WYATT WRIGHT, of Springston,
Farmer. - 50 acres, Rural Section 5,070, and 20
acres, Rural Section 6,346, in the Lincoln District,
Province of Canterbury.

JAMES DONALD, of Prebbleton, Farmer.-20
perches, part Rural Section 66, Christchurch Dis-
trict, Province of Canterbury, commencing at a
point in a line at right angles to the east boundary
of said section 566 links from a point in said
boundary 1,560 links from south-east corner of
section; thence West, in same line, 1 chain; thence
South, at a right angle, 125 links; thence East, at
a right angle fronting an accommodation road, 1
chain, and back 125 links to starting point.

Caveat in each case must be lodged within one
calendar month after the date of publication of this
notice.

Dated this first day of March, 1871, at the Lands
Registry Office, Christchurch.
