A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by Act made and enacted in the
Imperial Parliament holden in the fifteenth
and sixteenth years of the reign of Her Majesty
Queen Victoria, intituled "An Act to grant a Repre-
sentative Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand,"
it is amongst other things enacted, that whenever
any Bill shall have been assented to by the Super-
intendent, as in the said Act provided, the Super-
intendent shall forthwith transmit to the Governor an
authentic copy thereof, and it shall be lawful for the
Governor, at any time within three months after any
such Bill shall have been received by him, to declare
by Proclamation his disallowance of such Bill; and
that any such disallowance shall make void and annul
the same from and after the day of the date of such
Proclamation, or any subsequent day to be named
therein:

And whereas the Ordinance hereinafter specified
has been enacted by the Superintendent of Canter-
bury, with the advice and consent of the Provincial
Council thereof, and the said Ordinance was received
by the Governor on the sixteenth day of April,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy:

And whereas it is expedient that the said Ordi-
nance should be disallowed:

Now therefore, I, the Governor of New Zealand,
in pursuance of the authority vested in me in that
behalf by the said recited Act of Parliament, do
hereby proclaim and declare my disallowance of the
following Ordinance passed by the Superintendent
and Provincial Council of the Province of Canter-
bury, namely :-

"The Christchurch Municipal Corporation Reserves
Ordinance, 1870."

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at Welling-
ton, this thirtieth day of May, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventy.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At Auckland, this fourth day of May, 1870.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by, "The New Zealand Post Office
Act, 1858," power is given to the Governor
in Council from time to time to make rules and
regulations for the management of the several Post
Offices of the said Colony, for the receiving, despatch-
ing, conveying and delivering of letters (including
the imposition of fees for private boxes and deliveries);
for the detaining, opening, and return or other dis-
posal of irregularly posted, unclaimed, and refused
letters, or such as from any cause whatever cannot
be delivered or forwarded, and the contents thereof
respectively, and for the publication of the lists of
the same; for the making, custody, and sale of
postage labels; for the receiving and paying of
money in connection with the said Postal Service,
and for the conduct of Post officers; and any such
rules and regulations at any time in force to alter,
vary, or revoke; and for the purpose of giving effect
to the rules and regulations so to be made, further
power is given to the Governor in Council by the
said Act to impose any penalty not exceeding ten
pounds for any one offence against such rules and
regulations: And whereas by Order in Council
dated the sixteenth day of July, one thousand eight
hundred and sixty-seven, the Governor in Council
did, in pursuance of the said recited power and
authority, make the Rules and Regulations specified
in the Schedule thereinafter written: And whereas
it is expedient to revoke clause 129 of the aforesaid
Regulations, and to substitute another in lieu thereof:

Now therefore, His Excellency Sir George Fergu-
son Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, in pur-
suance of the said recited power and authority, and
by and with the consent of the Executive Council of
the Colony, doth hereby revoke so much of the said
Regulations as relates to the fees payable in respect
of private boxes, and the term for which the same
shall be let; and with the like advice and consent
doth hereby make the Regulation in the Schedule
hereinafter written; and with the like advice and
consent doth declare that this Order shall take effect
on and after the first day of May, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy.

SCHEDULE.
Clause 129. The fees payable in respect of each
private box shall be-

For a term exceeding six calendar months and
not exceeding one year, two pounds (£2).
For a term exceeding three calendar months and
not exceeding six calendar months, one pound
(£1).
For a term not exceeding three calendar months,
ten shillings (10s.).
For a term exceeding six calendar months and
not exceeding one year, when the box has been
already let to the same person for a term or
successive terms exceeding in all six calendar,
months, expiring within a week of the begin-
ing of the new term, one pound (£1).
For a term not exceeding six calendar months,
when the box has been already let to the same
person for a term or successive terms exceed-
ing in all six calendar months, ten shillings
(10s.).

All such fees to be paid in advance: Provided that
no private box shall be let save for a term ending on
the 31st day of March, the 30th day of June, the
30th day of September, or the 31st day of December
next after the day on which the same shall be let;
and that, where there are two or more applicants for
the same box at the same time, the preference shall
be given to the person desiring to have the same for
the longest term.

At the Government House, Auckland, this fourth
day of May, 1870.

HEREAS at a sitting of the Native Land
Court of New Zealand at Haruru, in the
District of Bay of Islands, Province of Auckland, on
the twenty-fourth day of March, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy, the claim of Kaiwhaka, an
aboriginal native of New Zealand, residing at Man-
gonui, to a piece of land called Takerau, situate
at Mangonui, in the district aforesaid, was heard, and
a certain order was thereupon made by the Court
aforesaid: And whereas it is enacted by "The
