14 of the said Act, subject to be rescinded as in the
said Act provided.

SIR, -I am directed by the Council of Legal Educa-
tion to enclose for your information copies of Reso-
lutions passed by the Benchers of the Four Inns of
Court, and by the Council of Legal Education, on
the subject of dispensation of Terms in favour of
Students coming from India or the Colonies.

Resolutions of the Four Inns of Court respecting
Students coming from India or the Colonies, with a
view to return to residence there; adopted by Orders
of the several Societies, 1868-1869.
I. That not more than four Terms under any cir-
cumstances be dispensed with in favour of Students
coming from India or the Colonies, with a view to
return to residence there; but that it is not expedient
to dispense with any Terms for such Students except
on condition of their passing such an Examination
as may be prescribed by the Legal Council from time
to time.
II. Provided that each Inn be at liberty to dispense
with this condition in such very special circumstances
as they may think fit, and that such circumstances be
stated in the Certificate of Call to the Bar given to
every such Student; the Benchers of each Inn, sub-
ject to the foregoing limitations, being guided in the
dispensation of Terms by the circumstances of each
particular case.
III. That the Council of Legal Education be
requested to propose a scheme for the Examinations
contemplated by the foregoing Resolutions.

Scheme of Examination prescribed by the Council of
Legal Education.
I. That Students coming from India, with a view
to return to residence there, and seeking for a dis-
pensation of not more than four Terms, shall satis-
factorily pass an Examination in----

  1. Hindu and Mahommedan Law;
  2. The Indian Penal Code;
  3. The Code of Criminal Procedure;
  4. The Code of Civil Procedure;
  5. The Indian Succession Act; and in such other
    Codes and Acts as may from time to time
    become law in British India.
    In addition to the above Examination, they shall
    also pass such Examinations, and abide by all such
    Rules and Regulations, as are now in force for
    Students seeking a "Pass Certificate" by Exami-
    nation for Call to the Bar.
    II. That Students coming from the Colonies, with
    a view to return to residence there, and seeking
    for a dispensation of not more than four Terms, shall
    pass such an Examination as is required, and abide by
    all such Rules and Regulations as are now in force,
    in order to obtain a Certificate of Honour.
