A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand, intituled "The New Zealand
Post Office Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be
lawful for the Governor in Council, from time to
time, by Proclamation to be published in the New
Zealand Gazette, to fix, alter, and abolish the Rates
of Postage at any time within the Colony, for the
transmission of Letters and Newspapers by post,
either between places within New Zealand or to or
from places beyond seas, and at what time the same
shall be paid, and that the postage so made payable
shall be charged and paid accordingly: And whereas
by a Proclamation duly made and issued, bearing
date the sixth day of June, one thousand eight
hundred and sixty-seven, the Governor in Council
did, in pursuance of the said recited power and
authority, fix certain Rates of Postage, and the
times at which the same respectively should be paid:
And whereas it is desirable that the said rates should
be altered as regards Book Packets and Pattern
Parcels as hereinafter mentioned:

Now therefore, in exercise of the said recited power
and authority, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council thereof,
do hereby abolish all former Rates of Postage fixed
to be paid within the Colony for the transmission of
Book Packets and Pattern Parcels to or from the
countries and places mentioned in the Schedule hereto,
and do proclaim and declare that the postage payable
within the Colony for the transmission of Book
Packets and Pattern Parcels by post, to or from the
countries and places mentioned in the Schedule
hereto, shall be according to the rates mentioned
therein, and that such postage shall in all cases be
paid at the time such Book Packets and Pattern
Parcels are delivered into the post; and that this
Proclamation shall take effect from and after the first
day of November, 1869, one thousand eight hundred
and sixty-nine.

SCHEDULE.
Rates of Postage chargeable on Book Packets and
Pattern Parcels posted in New Zealand for places
within the Colony, the Australian Colonies, India
and China, and the United Kingdom.
Not exceeding one ounce ... One penny.
Exceeding one ounce and not exceed-
ing two ounces ... Twopence.

Exceeding two ounces and not ex-
ceeding four ounces ... Fourpence.
Exceeding four ounces and not ex-
ceeding lb. ... Eightpence.
Exceedinglb. and not exceeding) Oneshillingand
1 lb. } fourpence.
For every additional eight ounces or
fractional part of eight ounces ... Eightpence.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand, intituled "The New Zealand
Settlements Acts Amendment Act, 1866," power is
given to the Governor to reserve portions of any of
the land taken under "The New Zealand Settlements
Act, 1863," for the several purposes for which
reserves may be made under the twelfth section of
"The Waste Lands Act, 1858," and may make
grants thereof under "The Public Reserves Act,
1854," or otherwise, as the case may require:
And whereas the purposes for which such reserves
may be made under the said twelfth section of the
said "Waste Lands Act, 1858," are for the con-
struction of trunk lines of road, or as sites for
public buildings for the use of the General Govern-
ment, or for other purposes of public utility or
convenience: And whereas the piece of land de-
scribed in the Schedule hereunder written has been
taken under "The New Zealand Settlements Act,
1863," and it is expedient that it should be reserved
for the purposes herein set forth:

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
the Governor of New Zealand, in pursuance and
exercise of the powers so vested in me, do hereby
except from sale and reserve to Her Majesty, her
heirs and successors, the piece of land described in
the Schedule hereunder written, as a site for a
school or other purposes of the General Govern-
ment.

SCHEDULE.
PROVINCE OF AUCKLAND.
Town of Cambridge East.
All that parcel of land, containing by admeasure-
ment one (1) acre, more or less, being allotment
numbered five hundred and seventy-five (575) of the
Town of Cambridge East.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of
Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor
and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her
Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its
Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the

Auckland, this fifteenth day of October,
in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-nine.
