A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Act of the Imperial Parliament
passed in the fifteenth and sixteenth years of
the reign of Her present Majesty, cap. seventy-two,
intituled "An Act to grant a Representative Consti-
tution to the Colony of New Zealand," the several
Provinces of Auckland, New Plymouth, Wellington,
Nelson, Canterbury, and Otago, are thereby estab-
lished; and it is enacted that for each of the said
Provinces there shall be a Superintendent and
Provincial Council:

And whereas by the said Act it is further enacted
that every Provincial Council shall continue for the
period of four years from the day of return of the
writs for choosing the same, and no longer: Provided
always that it shall be lawful for the Governor of
New Zealand, by Proclamation or otherwise, to
dissolve the same whenever he shall think it ex-
pedient so to do :

And whereas by "The Province of Taranaki Act,
1858," it was enacted that from and after the first
day of January, one thousand eight hundred and
fifty-nine, the Province of New Plymouth should be
called the Province of Taranaki :

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do by
this Proclamation dissolve the Provincial Council of
the said Province of Taranaki accordingly.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zea-
land and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same, at the Government
House, at Wellington; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony this eighth
day of September in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and sixty-
nine.

Council, and reserved by the Superintendent of
the Province of Canterbury for the signification of
the Governor's pleasure thereon, intituled

"The Sheep Ordinance, 1864, Amendment Ordi-
nance, 1869;"
"The Trespass of Cattle Ordinance, 1869;"
"The Fencing Ordinance, 1869 ; "
"The Roads Ordinance, 1669;"
having been laid before the Governor, His Excellency
has been pleased to assent to the same.

and reserved by the Superintendent of the
Province of Marlborough for the signification of the
Governor's pleasure thereon, intituled

"The Picton and Havelock Improvement Act, 1869,"
having been laid before the Governor, His Excellency
has been pleased to assent to the same.

to be Registrar of Deeds for the District of Auckland,
in the absence on leave of the present Registrar.
This appointment takes effect on and from the 18th
day of August, 1869.
