Kai Iwi Cavalry
Volunteers.
Trooper William Lingard
For his gallant conduct before
the enemy on the 28th Decem-
ber, 1868.

While the Kai Iwi and
Wanganui Troops of Cavalry
Volunteers were reconnoitring
the enemy's position at Tau-
rangaika, a portion of the force
galloped in close to the palisades
of the pa, receiving the enemy's
fire at the distance of a few
yards, several men becoming
dismounted through having
their horses shot. Trooper
Lingard rode past the pa, at the
distance of about 40 yards, and
cut with his sword the tether
line of a horse belonging to the
enemy, brought it to one of his
comrades whose horse was shot,
and assisted him to mount
thereon.

In the Wanganui Cavalry Volunteers.
Major John Nixon (Wanganui Militia) to be Cap-
tain. Date of commission, 3rd May, 1869.

In the "Lady Bowen's" Light Horse Volunteers.
Albert Henry Nicholson to be Captain. Date of
commission, 8th December, 1868.
Charles E Beetham to be Lieutenant. Date
of commission, 8th December, 1868.
William Evans to be Cornet. Date of commission,
14th April, 1869.

In the Wairoa (Hawke's Bay) Rifle Volunteers.
John Jude Taylor to be Captain. Date of com-
mission, 1st May, 1869.
Alexander Gethin to be Ensign. Date of com-
mission, 1st May, 1869.

In the Lyttelton Artillery Volunteers.
Surgeon John Thomas Rouse (Canterbury Rifle
Volunteers) to be Surgeon. Date of commission,
22nd March, 1862.
