A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The District Courts Act, 1858,"
it is enacted that there shall be within the
Colony of New Zealand Courts of Record possessing
civil and criminal jurisdiction, to be called " District
Courts," and the Governor is empowered, from time
to time, as he shall think fit, by proclamation in the
New Zealand Gazette, to constitute throughout the
Colony, or in any part thereof, districts within which
such Courts shall be respectively held, and such
districts to abolish, and the boundaries thereof to
define or alter, and also to declare by what local name
such Courts shall be designated.
And whereas by proclamation dated the nineteenth
day of March, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-
seven, and published in the New Zealand Gazette,
on the twentieth day of March, one thousand eight
hundred and sixty-seven, I, Sir George Grey, the
Governor of the said Colony, did, in pursuance and
exercise of the aforesaid power and authority, consti-
tute and proclaim the district of the Colony therein
described to be a district within which a District
Court designated "The District Court of Westland,"
should be held under the said Act, and under "The
District Courts Act Amendment Act, 1865."
And whereas it is expedient that the boundaries of
the said district should be altered:
Now therefore, I,-Sir George Grey, the Governor
as aforesaid, in pursuance and exercise of the afore-
said power and authority, do hereby proclaim and
declare that from and after the twenty-fourth
day of January, one thousand eight hundred and
sixty-eight, the boundaries of the said district shall
be altered, and that thenceforth the boundaries
thereof shall be as hereinafter described, and that
the designation of the said Court shall be "The
District Court of the County of Westland."
Description of District.
The County of Westland District is bounded by the
sea coast from the mouth of the River Awarua to the
mouth of the River Grey; thence the southern
boundary of the Province of Nelson to the saddle
between the Rivers Teramakau and Hurunui; thence
the watershed between the Eastern and Western
Coasts of the Middle Island of New Zealand to its
intersection with the northern boundary of the
Province of Otago; thence the said last-named
boundary to the commencing point at the mouth of
the River Awarua.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Grey, Knight Commander of the
Most Honorable Order of the Bath,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony,
at Wellington, this twentieth day of

The District Court of Westland North.
Description of District.
The Westland North District shall comprise so
much and such part of the Province of Nelson as is
bounded by a line from the mouth of the River Mackay
in the said Province of Nelson, to the summit of Mount
Arthur, in the said Province of Nelson; thence by a
straight line to the junction of the River Gowan
(otherwise called Roturoa) with the River Buller;
thence by a straight line to the summit of Mount
Princess, in the said Province of Nelson; thence by
a straight line to the saddle between the Hurunui
River and the Teremakau River; thence by the
southern boundary of the said Province of Nelson to
the sea coast; and thence by the sea to the mouth of
the said River Mackay.

PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand, intituled "The Resident
Magistrates' Act, 1867," it is enacted that it shall be
lawful for the Governor, from time to time, or at any
time, by proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette,
to declare that the limit of jurisdiction of the
Resident Magistrate's Court of any district shall be
extended to fifty pounds, or to one hundred pounds,
as he may think proper, and thereupon such Court
shall have power to hear and determine any case in
which the amount of the debt or damage claimed
shall not exceed the limit fixed by such proclamation,
and which might have been lawfully tried in such
Court, in case the amount of the debt or damage
claimed therein had not exceeded twenty pounds.
And whereas the districts specified in the first and
second Schedules hereto were by proclamation dated
the twenty-ninth day of November last, and published
