NOTES.
Taranaki.—Gale from S.E. on 4th, 5th, and 6th, lasting fifty hours, and very high wind on 7th and 8th from N.E.; thunder on
the 8th; fog on the 19th, 20th, 21st, and 29th; slight earthquake on the 20th; very wet and disagreeable month.
Wellington.—Strong wind on the 20th from N.W.; fine weather during the month.
Nelson.—Very dry month; only four days of rain; light winds.
Christchurch.—Pleasant weather; strong wind from N.W. on the 16th.
Hokitika.—Strong N.W. wind on 1st, with showers and heavy squall at 5 p.m. on same day; thunderstorm on 30th, S.W. wind
with rain; fog on 13th, 14th, 15th, and 19th; wet, unpleasant weather; prevailing wind, S.E.
Dunedin.—Strong winds on 17th, 27th, and 30th, from W.: tolerably fine weather.
Southland.—Thunder on 21st; hail on 30th; fog on 25th: rather a wet month.
GENERAL REMARKS.
The barometer readings are (with one exception) higher than those for previous years; the temperatures are in most cases
lower than usual for this month; the rainfall is less than usual, and at Nelson it is nearly 3.5 inches below the average
for the same month for previous years. The average daily force of wind is greatest at Taranaki and least at Hokitika; and the
maximum force of wind also highest at Taranaki and lowest at Hokitika.
