THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
3. On all intercolonial steamers, when coming
to the wharf,-One shilling per ton per trip.
4. On all lighters trading to the offing, or on
all tug-boats bringing in cargo from vessels in
the offing,-Eightpence per ton measurement
for all cargo carried to the wharf.
5. On all tug-steamers, a charge of Threepence
per ton on the registered tonnage of all vessels
towed in by them.
6. A charge upon all steamers bringing in
or taking out passengers to and from the
roadstead, at the rate of Fourpence for such
passengers.
Given under my hand, at Wellington, this
seventeenth day of June, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-eight.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the third section of "The Gold
Fields Act, 1866," it is enacted that it shall be
lawful for the Governor, from time to time, by
proclamation to constitute and appoint any portion
of the Colony to be a gold field under the provisions
of the said Act, and the limits of such gold field
from time to time to alter as occasion may require.
And whereas by the 109th section of the said Act it
is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor in
Council, under his hand and the public seal of the
Colony, from time to time to delegate to such person
as the Governor may deem fit, all or any of the
powers vested in the Governor, or the Governor in
Council, by the said Act, except the powers conferred
by sections 22, 40, 48, 60, 96, and 107 thereof,
subject or not to any limitations or restrictions as he
may think fit. And whereas by an instrument in
writing, dated the twentieth day of January last, and
published in the New Zealand Gazette on the same
day, His Excellency the Governor did, under his
hand and the public seal of the Colony, delegate to
me, John Hall, one of Her Majesty's Executive
Council in New Zealand, all the powers vested in the
Governor under or by virtue of "The Gold Fields Act,
1866," except the powers conferred by sections 22,
40, 48, 60, 96, and 107, to have, hold, and exercise,
within the County of Westland, the said powers
thereby given to me, the said John Hall, so long as I
shall continue and remain a member of the said
Executive Council. And whereas by a proclamation
bearing date the twenty-second day of April, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, I, the said
John Hall, in exercise and pursuance of the powers
and authorities vested in and delegated to me in that
behalf, did proclaim, constitute, and appoint, all that
portion of New Zealand contained within the County
of Westland to be a gold field, under "The Gold
Fields Act, 1866." And whereas it is expedient to
alter the limits of the said gold field, in manner
hereinafter appearing: Now therefore, I, John Hall,
one of Her Majesty's Executive Council in New
Zealand, in pursuance and in exercise of all powers
and authorities vested in and delegated to me in this
behalf, do hereby alter the limits of the said gold
field, called "The Westland Gold Field," proclaimed
and constituted as aforesaid, by excepting thereout,
and I do hereby accordingly except from and out of
the said gold field, all those portions of the Colony
included within the boundaries of the town of
Hokitika, the town of Greymouth, and the town of
Okarita East, the town of Okarita North, the
town of Okarita South, as the same are respectively
defined in the Schedule hereto; and I do hereby
proclaim, constitute, and appoint all that portion of
the Colony which is contained within the said County
of Westland, with the exception of those portions
of the Colony included within the boundaries of the
towns aforesaid, to be a gold field under "The Gold
Fields Act, 1866," to be called and known as
"THE WESTLAND GOLD FIELD."
SCHEDULE.
-
The town of Hokitika, comprising all that area,
containing 640 acres, more or less, situate on the
north side of the Hokitika River, commencing at a
point on the high bank of the old bed of the aforesaid
river, the said point being forty chains forty links
west of Trigonometrical Station 31; thence following
a line bearing North 20 degrees 14 minutes East
(magnetic) a distance of 62 chains 65 links; thence
westerly, at a right angle, a distance of 85 chains 40
links to the sea beach, following the said beach
southerly to the mouth of the Hokitika River, and
from thence returning along the northern bank
thereof and the high bank of the old river bed above
mentioned to the commencing point. And also all
that parcel of land, containing 640 acres more or less,
situate on the Hokitika River, West Coast, bounded
on the northward by reserve 271 in red, on the west-
ward by the sea, on the East by section number 8238
and a line in continuation of the western boundary
thereof, and on the southward by a line at right
angies to the last described boundary and about 130
chains distant on the average from the reserve above
mentioned. -
The town of Greymouth, comprising all that
area of land containing 1000 acres, more or less,
situate at the mouth of the River Grey, commencing
at the south-eastern corner of Native Reserve num-
ber 31, thence following a line in a south-westerly
direction at an angle of 74 degrees 13 minutes with
the southern boundary of the before-mentioned
reserve, a distance of about 122 chains; thence
north-westerly at a right angle a distance of about
118 chains to the sea beach; following the beach to
the mouth of the Grey; thence following the south-
ern bank of that river to the north-western corner of
the Native Reserve before mentioned, and from thence
returning along the western and southern boundaries
of that reserve to the commencing point, and num-
bered 280 in red on the official map of the Chief
Surveyor of the County of Westland, setting out and
describing the said town of Greymouth, save and
except the Native Reserve number 32. -
The Town of Okarita East, comprising all that
parcel of land containing three hundred and twenty
acres, more or less, situate at Okarita, on the north-
east side of the lagoon, having a frontage of about
one hundred chains on the lagoon, the northern
boundary being a line at right angles to the eastern
shore of the lagoon, and the eastern boundary being
a line at right angles to the northern boundary, to
include the above quantity. -
The Town of Okarita North, comprising all
that parcel of land containing three hundred and
twenty acres, more or less, situate at Okarita, being
bounded on the South by the lagoon, on the North
by the sea coast, and on the East by a line at right
angies to the sea coast, to contain the quantity
required, subject to the Native Reserve. -
The Town of Okarita South, comprising all that
parcel of land containing three hundred and twenty
acres, more or less, situate at Okarita, on the west
side of the lagoon, having frontage of about one
hundred chains to the lagoon, the south-western
boundary being a line at right angles to the general
direction of the coast, and the south-eastern bound-
ary being a line at right angles to the last described
boundary, and to include the above quantity subject
to the Native Reserve.
Given under my hand at Wellington, this nine-
teenth day of June, 1868.
