IN conformity with the provisions of "The Gold
Fields Acts Amendment Act, 1865," it is hereby
notified that it is intended to grant a Lease for Gold-
mining purposes of the Crown Lands to the persons
in the following Schedule.

Locality—Arthur's Point, Queenstown District,
Otago.
Area—7 acres 1 rood and 7 perches.

I, ALFRED WILLIAM SMITH, Registrar of Joint
Stock Companies for the Provinces of Otago
and Southland, do hereby certify that I have registered
a Memorandum of Association, with Articles of
Association annexed, establishing a Company with
limited liability of the shareholders therein, entitled—
"THE BRUCE INDEPENDENT COMPANY (Limited);"
the objects for which the Company is established
being "the printing and publishing of a newspaper
at such times and in such places as the Company may
from time to time determine, the carrying on of a
general printing office, and the doing all such other
things as may be incidental or conducive to the
attainment of the above objects;" and I hereby
further notify that in pursuance of "The Joint
Stock Companies Act, 1860," I have issued a
Certificate of Incorporation of the said Company,
bearing date the twenty-first day of June, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-six.

In the matter of the petition of Frederic Louis
Mieville, of Dunedin, in the Province of Otago,
ironmonger, carrying on business under the firm
or style of "Day and Mieville," a debtor; and in
the matter of the petition of James Barr and
John Haddin Barr, both of Dunedin aforesaid,
merchants, trading as "J. and J. H. Barr,"
creditor of the said Frederic Louis Mieville to
the extent of not less than Fifty pounds, and in
the matter of "The Debtors and Creditors Act,
1862," and "The Debtors and Creditors Act
Amendment Act, 1865."
THE matter of the above petition coming on this
day for the second hearing thereof: Upon
reading the order for sequestration and vesting of
the bankrupt's estate made herein, and bearing date
the twenty-seventh day of February, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-six, and upon hearing Mr.
Turton, of counsel for the bankrupt, it is ordered
that the above-named John Haddin Barr and Charles
Henry Street, of Dunedin aforesaid, land agent, the
interim sequestrators of the bankrupt's estate, be, and
they are hereby appointed, trustees of the estate and
effects of the said bankrupt; and it is further ordered
that all the real and personal estate of the bankrupt
which shall vest in the said John Haddin Barr and
Charles Henry Street, by virtue of their said appoint-
ment, shall be held by them, their heirs, executors and
administrators respectively upon trust, to sell, collect
and get in such real and personal estate and to re-
ceive the moneys arising therefrom, and to execute all
necessary conveyances and assurances thereof, and
out of the moneys to arise from the sale, collecting
and getting in of the said real and personal estate
to retain and pay all expenses properly incurred of
and attending such sale and conversion as aforesaid,
and to pay the poundage and all fees payable under
the above-mentioned Acts or either of them, and to
pay the costs of and incidental to the above petition
and subsequent thereto, such costs to be first taxed
in the usual way; and also all costs and expenses
which have been or shall be ordered by this Court or
any Judge thereof to be paid out of the estate of the
bankrupt, and to distribute the net residue of the
said trust moneys between and amongst and for the
benefit of such of the creditors of the bankrupts as
were his creditors at the time of the presentation of
his petition, and who shall duly prove their debts by
affidavits filed in the office of the Registrar of this
Court at Dunedin aforesaid, within six calendar
months from the date of this order by way of pro
rata distribution subject to existing legal priorities,
and to pay the surplus (if any) of the said trust
moneys to the said bankrupt; and it is further ordered
that the said bankrupt be allowed to retain
the wearing apparel of himself, his wife, and children;
and it is further ordered that the further hearing of
the said petition be and the same is hereby
adjourned until Monday, the eighteenth day of June
next.

NOTICE is hereby given that by Deed bearing date
the twenty-ninth day of June, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-six, and made between
Thomas Jackson Bennett, of the City of Wellington,
in the Province of Wellington, draper, of the one
part, and Edward Owen and William Whittem, of
the City of Wellington aforesaid, merchants, trustees
of the other part, the said Thomas Jackson Bennett
did convey and assure all the land, hereditaments,
and premises of him the said Thomas Jackson Ben-
nett of whatever nature or kind soever unto the said
Edward Owen and William Whittem, their heirs and
assigns upon trust, to sell the same as therein men-
tioned, and to stand possessed of the proceeds to arise
from such sale or sales upon the trusts in the deed
next hereinafter mentioned. And notice is hereby
further given, that by deed dated the same day as the
before mentioned deed and made between the said
Thomas Jackson Bennett of the first part, the said
Edward Owen and William Whittem of the second
part, and the several other persons whose hands and
seals are thereunto set and fixed, being respectively
creditors of the said Thomas Jackson Bennett of the
third part, the said Thomas Jackson Bennett did
assign, transfer and set over all and singular the
personal estate and effects of him unto the said
Edward Owen and William Whittem, their executors
administrators, and assigns upon trust for sale as
therein mentioned; and upon further trust to hold
the proceeds as well of the sale of the said personal
estate and effects, as also of the lands, tenements and
