Notifications to Claimants for Compensation
under authority of "The New Zealand Settle-
ments Act, 1863."

WHEREAS by Orders in Council made
under the authority of Sections 3 and 4
of "The New Zealand Settlements Act, 1863,"
His Excellency the Governor has declared that
certain lands belonging to Rebellious Tribes,
were required for the purposes of the said Act,
and were subject to the provisions thereof: And
whereas it is provided by the said Act that
compensation shall be granted to all persons
who shall have any title, interest, or claim to
any Land taken under the said Act, provided
always that no compensation shall be granted
to any of the persons following—that is to say,
to any person,

(1.) Who shall, since the 1st of January,
1863, have been engaged in levying or making
war, or carrying arms against Her Majesty the
Queen, or Her Majesty's Forces in New Zea-
land; or

(2.) Who shall have adhered to, or aided,
assisted, or comforted, any such persons as
aforesaid, or

(3.) Who shall have counselled, advised, in-
duced, enticed, persuaded, or conspired with
any other person to make or levy war against
Her Majesty, or to carry arms against Her Ma-
jesty's Forces in New Zealand, or to join with
or assist any such persons as are before men-
tioned in sub-sections (1) and (2); or,

(4.) Who, in furtherance or in execution-of
the designs of any such persons as aforesaid,
shall have been, either as principal or accessory,
concerned in any outrage against person or
property; or

(4.) Who, on being required by the Gover-
nor, by Proclamation to that effect in the Go-
vernment Gazette, to deliver up the arms in
their possession, shall refuse or neglect to com-
ply with such demand after a certain day to-
be specified in such Proclamation.

And it is further provided that compensation
shall be granted according to the nature of the
title, interest, or claim of the person requiring
compensation, and according to the value
thereof: Provided always that no claim shall
be entertained unless the same shall have been

preferred in writing to the Colonial Secretary
by the Claimant, if residing in the Colony,
within six months, and if not residing within
the Colony then within eighteen months, after
the Land in respect of which the claim is made
has been proclaimed under Section 4 as required
for the purposes of this Act.

Now, therefore, it is hereby notified, that
such claims for compensation arising prior to
the taking of any of the Lands comprised within
the limits referred to in the said Orders in
Council, and hereunder described or referred to,
shall be sent in to the Colonial Secretary, ad-
dressed to him at Wellington, within the periods
respectively prescribed, as before mentioned.

NOTE.—Forms of Claims may be obtained at
the Office of Native Land Court in Auckland,
or from any Resident Magistrate or Native
Assessor.

LANDS ABOVE REFERRED TO.

SCHEDULE.
East Wairoa Block.

All that land known as East Wairoa Block,
bounded on the North by the Wairoa River
and the Northern boundary of the lands in-
tended to be confiscated, as set forth in the
Proclamation of 17th December, 1864; on the
East by the Eastern boundary of such confis-
cated lands; on the South by the Mangata-
whiri River, from the Surry Redoubt to the
Eastern boundary of the Pokeno Block, as
described in the Proclamation of the 29th
December, 1864; and on the West by the said
Pokeno Block.

SCHEDULE.
West Pukekohe Block.

All that land known as the West Pukekohe
Block, supposed to contain 1133 acres; Bound-
ed on the North by lot No. 38, Parish of Puke-
kohe, 7,100 links; on the East, by the Pukekohe
Native Reserve, 30,084 links; on the South by
lot 44, Parish of Pukekohe, 2,160 links; and on
the West by lot No. 78, Parish of Pune, 2,640
links, and 4,660 links, and by a road 28,030
links to commencing point.

SCHEDULE.
Middle Taranaki.

All that Block of land at Taranaki, bounded
on the North and West by the Sea, on the East
by the Waitara river from its mouth to the
junction of the Manganui river, and by the
Manganui from the Waitara to the crossing
place of the Kairoa and Waimate road, thence
by the South of the said road to its junction
with the Wanganui and Taranaki coast road,
and thence by a straight line from the said
junction of roads to the sea at its nearest point.
Excepting all lands within the said boundaries
held under Grant from the Crown.

SCHEDULE.
Waitara South.

All that block of land at Taranaki, bounded
on the North by the sea; on the East by the
Waitara River, from its mouth to the junction
of the Manganui river, on the South by a
