THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
- Each boat shall carry, if required, 8lbs. weight
of luggage with every passenger, without additional
charge; and any passenger detaining a boat for a
period exceeding 20 minutes shall be liable to an
extra charge at the rate of 4s. per hour. - All ballast lighters, cargo and water-tank
boats plying for hire, shall be measured, marked, and
registered; and upon payment of three shillings per
ton register, shall receive a license, to be renewed on
the 1st July in each year. - Any person holding a license for a cargo boat
who shall load the same, in excess of the quantity
allowed to be carried in accordance with his license,
shall forfeit his license, and be liable to a penalty of
Five Pounds. - Any Boatman charging more than the author-
ised rates or fares, or refusing to employ his boat
when required to do so, shall be liable to forfeit his
license, and to pay a penalty of Five Pounds.

HIS Excellency the Governor has peen pleased to
grant Letters of Registration in favour of
James Jacobs and Thomas Martin, of Willunga, in
the Colony of South Australia, Slate Quarriers, on
Letters patent granted to them in the Colony of
Victoria for an invention for a new explosive com-
pound or powder.

THE following Proclamations, issued by their
Honors the Superintendents of Taranaki and
Canterbury, under the “Diseased Cattle Act, 1861,”
are republished for general information.

PROCLAMATION.
"The Diseased Cattle Act, 1861."
By His Honor CHARLES BROWN, Esq., Super-
intendent of the Province of Taranaki.
WHEREAS by Section No. 10 of "The Diseased Cattle
Act, 1861," it is enacted that if at any time it shall
be made to appear to the Governor that any in-
fectious or contagious disease has broken out amongst
Cattle in any district of the Colony, it shall be lawful
for the Governor by Order in Council to declare that
such district is infected within the meaning of the
Act, and from time to time to make such regulations
for destroying diseased Cattle therein, and for pro-
hibiting the removal or transportation of Cattle from
one part of the Colony to another, and for preventing
the further spread of such disease as to him shall
seem fit. And it is by the same Act enacted that the
Governor in Council may by warrant under his hand
from time to time delegate to the Superintendent of
any Province within the Colony all or any of the
powers vested in the Governor or Governor in
Council by the said Act, subject to such regulations
as he may think fit, and may from time to time

rescind such delegation. And whereas the Governor
has, with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of New Zealand, delegated to the Superin-
tendent of Taranaki certain powers conferred upon
him by the said Diseased Cattle Act, subject to
certain regulations made by the Governor in Council
under the said recited Act, bearing date the 14th day
of September, 1864.
Now, therefore, I, Charles Brown, Esquire, Super-
intendent of the Province of Taranaki, in the exercise
of the powers delegated to me under the 10th section
of the said Act, do hereby proclaim and declare the
district lying between the Tapuae river and the
Hurford road from its point of intersection with the
said river to the Omata road, and a line produced
from the Hurford road to the head of the Wairere
stream, and the said stream (running through rural
allotments Nos. 16, 17, and 19, in the Omata district)
to the sea at low water mark, to be an infected
district within the meaning and for the purposes of
the said Act, and that from and after the date hereof
no Cattle in the said district shall cross the boundary
between the said Tapuae river along the Hurford
road to the sea.
Given under my hand, and issued under the
Public Seal of the Province of Taranaki,
at New Plymouth, the 23rd day of
January, 1865.

Regulations under "The Diseased Cattle Act,
1861."
WHEREAS it is provided by "The Diseased Cattle
Act, 1861," that all regulations and appointments
made by the Superintendeut of any Province in pur-
suance of any power delegated to him under the
power of delegation hereinafter contained, shall be
published in the Government Gazette of such Province
and all such regulations being so published shall have
the force of law. And whereas by warrant under the
hand of His Excellency the Governor, bearing date
the 14th day of September, 1864, the Governor did,
with the advice and consent of the Executive Council
of New Zealand, delegate to the Superintendent of
the Province of Taranaki the several powers vested in
the Governor by the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 10th
sections of the said Act, subject as in the said
warrant is provided. And whereas by two Proclama-
tions under the hand of the Superintendent of the
Province of Taranaki, bearing date respectively the
11th and 12th days of January instant, certain
districts in the Province of Taranaki were declared
to be infected within the meaning of the said Act, and
it is expedient to provide penalties for persons driving
Cattle from such prohibited districts across the
boundaries defined in such Proclamations.
Now, therefore, I, Charles Brown, Esquire, Super-
intendent of the Province of Taranaki, do hereby
notify and declare that the following penalties shall
be imposed against any person guilty of any breach
of the aforesaid regulations :-
For a first offence, any sum not exceeding £5 for
each head of cattle driven or removed from an
infected district.
For a second offence, any sum not exceeding £20
for each head of cattle driven or removed from
an infected district.
For a third offence, any sum not exceeding £100
for each head of Cattle driven or removed from
an infected district.
