A PROCLAMATION
Bringing "The Native Lands Act, 1862," into force
within the whole of the Colony.

By His Excellency Sir GEORGE GREY, Knight
Commander of the Most Honorable Order
of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-
Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and
Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS an Act of the General Assembly was
passed in the Session thereof held in the year
One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-two, called
the "Native Lands Act, 1862," and in the said Act
was contained a provision that it should come into
operation, and be in force within such District only,
as should from time to time be proclaimed by the
Governor in that behalf:

And whereas, by Proclamations bearing date, re-
spectively, the nineteenth day of April and the
sixteenth and eighteenth days of August, One
Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-four, the said
Act was brought into operation within certain Dis-
tricts, thereby constituted, and called respectively,
"The Native Land, District of Kaipara North," "The
Native Land, District of Kaipara South," "The
Native Land, District of Waimate," "The Native
Land, District of Hokianga," and "The Native Land,
District of Kororarika":

And whereas it is expedient to abolish the said
Districts respectively, and to define one general
District in lieu thereof, within which the said Act
shall be brought into operation:

Now, therefore, I, Sir George Grey, the Governor
as aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that the
said "Native Lands Act, 1862," shall, from the date
hereof, come into operation and be in force, within
the whole of the said Colony.

Given under my hand, at the Government House,
at Auckland, and issued under the
seal of the Colony of New Zealand,
this Twenty-ninth day of December, in the
year of our Lord One Thousand Eight
Hundred and Sixty-four.

PROCLAMATION
Fixing Rate of Postage on Newspapers.

By His Excellency Sir GEORGE GREY, Knight
Commander of the most Honorable Order
of the Bath, Governor and Commander
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Depen-
dencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same,
&c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand, 21st and 22nd Victoria,
Number 15, intituled the "New Zealand Post Office
Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for
the Governor in Council, from time to time, by
Proclamation to be published in the New Zealand
Gazette, to fix, alter, and abolish the rates of Postage
at any time payable within the Colony, for the
transmission of letters by Post, either between places
within New Zealand, or to or from places beyond
seas, and at what time the same shall be paid; and
that the postage so made payable shall be charged
and paid accordingly; and by the same Act it was
declared that the term "letters" should include,
amongst other things, Newspapers:

And whereas by a Proclamation, bearing date the
Twenty-ninth day of December, 1860, made in pur-
suance of the said recited power, certain rates of
Postage have been fixed for transmission of
letters, and for the transmission in certain cases, as
set forth in the Schedule to the said Proclamation,
and it is expedient to alter the rates of Postage for
the transmission of Newspapers:
