in the Province of Nelson.
JOHN EWART, Chief Officer of Police,
in the Province of Marlborough,
ST. JOHN BRANIGAN, Chief Officer of Police,
in the Province of Otago, and
CHARLES W. R. LA SERRE, Chief Officer
of Police in the Province of Hawke's
Bay,
have been appointed to institute proceedings
for certain offences against the "Arms Act,
1860."
These appointments bear date from 5th
September, 1861.

THE following notice received from the
Government of the Cape of Good Hope
respecting the new Roman Rock Light, at theen-
trance of Simon's Bay, which was to be exhibited
on the 16th of September, 1861, is published for
general information.
WILLIAM Fox.
ROMAN ROCK LIGHT, FALSE BAY,
CAPE OF COOD HOPE.
The bearings are by Compass and the
distances in Nautical Miles.
Notice is hereby given, that a light will be
exhibited from the new Light-house on the
Roman Rocks, on the 16th September next,
which will supersede that shown at the light-
vessel now moored a cable's length north of
the rocks. It will be a revolving white light
showing a bright face for the space of twelve
seconds twice every minute, which will serve
to distinguish it from the Cape Point light in
