HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to authorize
HERBERT SAMUEL WARDELL, Esq.,
Resident Magistrate, Wairarapa, to examine into, and report upon, certain claims for com-pensation arising out of the late occupation by Natives of lands sold by the Government in the Featherstone Block, Wairarapa District, Province of Wellington.

NOTICE OF HEARING.
Court of Claims, Auckland, March 6th, 1861.
PURSUANT to the Land Claims Settlement Acts, the Claims specified in the annexed Schedule will be investigated in open Court, at Auckland, on Friday, the 10th day of May next, and following days, at which time and place the Claimants and all parties interested are required to attend with their witnesses and the original deeds or documents relating to the respective claims.

| James Williamson | Mangawhai - | This is a derivative claim under original claim No. 383 (c), of William Mayhew, alleged to have been purchased from the Natives by J. R. Clendon in 1839. Commissioner Godfrey, 24th March, 1843, recommended no grant, the purchase having been completed after the Proclamation of 1840; but recommended, as compensation for outlay in the purchase, a Grant to William Mayhew, for 200 acres of any land of average value. No Grant issued. Derivative claim admitted, and notification filed under the Acts. |
| Rev. Thomas Buddle | Kopua, Waipa | This is a claim under Pre-emption Certificate, No. 248, issued 12th November, 1845, in favour of James Wallis, on behalf of the Wesleyan Missionary Society. Commissioner Matson reported, 28th March, 1848, that no Survey had been sent in. Claim thereupon disallowed, 6th April, 1848. |
| Robert Twaites - | Ngunguru | This was an original claim, No. 303 & 303 (a.) Commissioner Godfrey, 1st December, 1842, recommended no Grant, claimant not appearing. Pre-emption Certificates, Nos. 176 & 177, dated 28th Febrnary, 1845, were issued in favour of claimant for a fresh purchase of the land. Commissioner Matson reported, 27th March, 1848, that no Survey had been sent in. Claim thereupon disallowed, 6th April, 1848. |

The claim was subsequently brought before Commissioner Fitzgerald for investigation: but claimant not producing Native witnesses the Commissioner declined going into the case. Pre-emption Certificate, No. 165, dated 4th February, 1845, issued to claimant for a fresh purchase of the land. Claim admitted and notification filed. |
