A PROCLAMATION,
Appointing Districts under the "Registration
Act, 1858."

By His Excellency Colonel THOMAS
GORE BROWNE, Companion of
the Most Honorable Order of the
Bath, Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its
Dependencies and Vice-Admiral
of the same, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General
Assembly intituled the "Registration
Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be law-
ful for the Governor from time to time, by
Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette, to
divide the Colony, for the purposes of the said
Act, into such and so many districts as he
shall think fit, and every such district shall
be called by a distinct name, and shall be a
Registrar's district: Provided always that
the Governor may at any time revoke the
whole or any part of such Proclamation and
issue a new Proclamation dividing the Colony
or any portion of it anew into districts or in-
creasing the number or altering the boundy
aries of districts, as from time to time he ma-
think requisite :

And whereas by a Proclamation duly made,
issued and published, bearing date the sixth
day of July, one thousand eight hundred and
fifty-nine, I, the Governor, in pursuance of
the power and authority vested in me by the
said in part recited Act, did divide the said
Colony, for the purposes of the sail Act, into
districts, the names and boundaries whereof
are respectively set forth in the said Procla-
mation, comprising amongst others the Dune-
din district, the Waitangi district, the Taieri
district, and the Invercargill district:

And whereas it is expedient for the pur-
poses of the said Act to divide anew that por-
tion of the said Colony comprised within the
four districts hereinbefore named :

Now, therefore, I, the Governor of the said
Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and
further exercise of the power and authority
vested in me by the said in part recited Act,

do hereby revoke the said Proclamation so
far as concerns the said four before mentioned
districts, and I do by this Proclamation divide
that portion of the said Colony which is com-
prised therein into nine districts, the names
and boundaries whereof shall be as follows :-

Dunedin District.
Comprises all that area bounded on the
North by the Waihemo Creek and the ocean,
on the East and South by the ocean, and on
the West by the Kaikorai and Abbot's Creek,
thence by the watershed of Flagstaff and
Swampy hills to the Waihemo Creek.

Waikowaiti District.
Comprises all that area bounded on the
North by the watershed of the Horse Range,
Moeraki Downs, Kakanui, Kurau, and Hawk-
dun Mountains, extending from Shag point
to Mount St. Bathan's, on the East by the
ocean, on the South by Dunedin district,
thence by the watershed of the Silver Peak
hills to Allan Creek, thence by the Allan
Creek, Taieri river, and Sutton's stream,
thence by the watershed of the Lammerlaw,
thence by the Minzion burn and Clutha river,
thence by an East and West line from Clutha
river to Mount Benger, on the West by
the watershed of the Obelisk and Cairn-
muir hills to the Clutha river, thence by the
watershed of the Dunstan Mountains to Mount
St. Bathan's.

Oamaru District.
Comprises all that area bounded on the
North by a direct line running from the
source of the Awarua to the source of the
Waitaki, by the Waitaki river from its source,
on the East by the ocean, on the South by
the Waikowaiti district by the Clutha and
Kawarau rivers, thence by the centre of the
North and West arm of the Wakatipu lake,
thence by the watershed of the Snowy Moun-
tains to the source of the Awarua.

North Taieri District.
Comprises all that area bounded on the
North by Waikowaiti District, on the East by
Dunedin District, on the South by Half-Way
Bush Road, and Silver stream and Taieri
river, and Waipori, and on the West by the
Lammerlaw.

East Taieri District.
Comprises all that area bounded on the
North by North Taieri District, on the East by
Dunedin District, on the South by the Ocean,
and on the West by the Taieri River.

Tokomairiro District.
Comprises all that area bounded on the
North by the North Taieri and East Taieri
Districts, on the East by the Ocean, on the
South and West by the Clutha river and its
Northern arm called Matau.

Warepa District.
Comprises all that area bounded on the
North by the watershed of the Umbrella
Mountains extending from Black Umbrella to
