MILITIA.
MONDAY, APRIL 30, 1860.
BY virtue and in exercise of the authority
in me vested, I, Thomas Gore Browne,
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do
make the following Regulations for securing
the efficiency of the Officers of the Auckland
Regiment of Militia :-

All appointments and promotions will be
made with a view to the exigencies and effici-
ency of the Militia Service, without reference
to rules applicable to other Services. -
Every Commissioned Officer, except Offi-
cers who have held commissions in Her
Majesty's Army, or in the East India Com-
pany's Service, before he can be appointed to
a Battalion or Company, must procure from
an Officer appointed for the purpose of grant-
ing such Certificates, a Certificate to the effect
that he is fully competent to perform the
duties required of him. -
No Officer will be appointed to a Batta-
lion or Company whose age exceeds that fixed
for service by the Militia Act, viz., 60 years.

BY virtue and in exercise of the authority
hereby appoint and declare that the Auckland
Regiment of Militia shall be formed into Four
Battalions, and that the Head Quarters of each
Battalion shall be as follows :-
1st Battalion, Head Quarters, Auckland.
2nd. " " Onehunga.
3rd. " " Otahuhu.
4th. " " At some place
on the North Shore to be hereafter de-
signated by me.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been
pleased to appoint the Deputy-Adjutant
General of the Auckland Militia to be the
Officer for granting Certificates under the Re-
gulations of the 18th of April, 1860, for se-
curing the efficiency of Officers.

hereby appoint and declare that the 1st or
Auckland Battalion shall be formed into Five
Companies as follows, viz:-
No. 1 Company
To comprise all those liable to serve as
Militiamen whose places of abode for the time
being are-
Within a line commencing at the centre
point of Queen street at its seaward termina-
tion, thence running along the centre of Queen
street to its junction with Victoria street,
thence eastward along the centre of Victoria
street to its junction with Victoria Quadrant
thence along the centres of Victoria Quadrant.,
