GORE BROWNE, Companion of
the Most Honorable Order of the
Bath, Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand, and
its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same, &c., &c.

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME
GREETING:

WHEREAS Her Majesty did by her Com-
mission under the Great Seal of the
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland,
bearing date at Westminster the ninth day of
February one thousand eight hundred and
fifty-five, in the eighteenth year of her reign,
constitute and appoint me to be the Governor
and Commander-in-Chief in and over the said
Colony of New Zealand, with all its members
and appurtenances whatsoever, for and during
her will and pleasure as upon relation being
thereunto had will more fully and at large
appear. And whereas by certain Letters
Patent under the Great Seal of the United
Kingdom aforesaid, bearing date on the
eighteenth day of February one thousand eight
hundred and fifty-nine, and in the twenty-
second year of Her reign, Her said Majesty did
by the now reciting Supplementary Commission
authorize and empower me the said Thomas
Gore Browne from time to time as occasion
should require by an instrument under the
Public Seal of the said Colony to assign consti-
tute and appoint any person to be my Deputy
in the Province of Auckland, in the said Co-
lony and in that capacity to exercise perform
and execute during my pleasure, but no longer,
all such powers, directions, and authorities as
are vested in me by the said Commission, and
the Instructions under her Majesty's Sign Ma-
nual and Signet therein referred to: Provided
nevertheless that by the appointment of a De-
puty as aforesaid, my power and authority as
Governor of the said Colony, should not be
abridged altered or in any way affected other-
wise than Her Majesty might at any time there-
after think proper to direct: Now know ye,
that I the said Thomas Gore Browne, by virtue
and in pursuance and exercise of the herein-
before recited power and authority for this
purpose given to and conferred upon me Do by
this instrument under the Public Seal of the
said Colony, assign constitute and appoint
CHARLES EMILIUS GOLD, Esq.,
a Colonel in her Majesty's Army, to be my
Deputy in the said Province of Auckland, and
in that capacity to exercise perform and
execute all such powers, directions, and autho-
rities as are vested in me by the said Commis-
sion and Instructions, subject nevertheless to the
hereinbefore recited proviso, to have hold ex-
ercise and enjoy the said office, with the rights
and appurtenances thereunto belonging during
my pleasure.

Colony of New Zealand, at the
Government House, at Auck-
land, this twenty-fifth day of
November, in the year of Our
Lord One thousand eight hun-
dred and fifty-nine.

THE Honorable Colonel Gold directs it to
be notified that he has taken the Oaths of
Office under the above Commission as the
Deputy of His Excellency the Governor, and
that he has this day assumed the duties of the
office accordingly.
