CONVEYANCE OF OVERLAND
MAILS.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Auckland, December 2nd, 1857.

TENDERS will be received at this office
until the 13th of February next from per-
sons desirous of contracting to perform the
following service for 12 months from the
acceptance of the contract viz:---

To convey Mails once a week between Wel-
lington and New Plymouth.

The Contractor to take the Mails from the
Post Office in Wellington at 2 p.m. every
Monday, and deliver them at the Post Office
in New Plymouth at one p.m. on the following
Saturday; and in like manner to take the Mails
from the Post Office in New Plymouth at two
o'clock every Monday, and deliver them at the
Post Office in Wellington at one o'clock on the
following Saturday—leaving and calling for
Mails at Wanganui, Rangitiki, and Manawatu:
waiting at each of the the two latter Post Offices
half an hour, and at the Wanganui Office 3
hours.

No Mail to exceed 28lbs. in weight.

Further particulars may be ascertained on
application to the Postmasters at Wellington,
Wanganui, and New Plymouth.

Every Tender must specify the time at
which the subscriber will be prepared to com-
mence the service, and security will be required
for the due performance of the Contract.

Payments to the Contractor will be made
monthly by the Postmaster at Wellington, or
New Plymouth, at the option of the con-
tractor.

NOTICE OF HEARING.

Court of Claims,
Auckland, December 1st, 1857.

PURSUANT to the "Land Claims Settlement Act, 1856," the Claims specified in the
annexed Schedule will be heard in open Court, at the General Assembly House, in
Auckland, on Monday, the 21st of December next, at noon; at which time and place the
Claimants and all parties interested are required to attend, with their witnesses and the original
deeds or documents relating to the respective Claims.

SCHEDULE.

Claimant. Where Situated. Nature of Claim.
Thomas Henderson Between the Manukan Ranges and the Waitentata. This is a Claim for a purchase under the authority of Governor FitzRoy, dated 8th October 1844. A plan was furnished by the claimant to the Surveyor-General, for 17,784 acres, 1 rood, 25 perches; but no Grant issued. Claimant subse- quently purchased 6561 acres within the claim under the Regulations of the 4th March 1853. Government promised an allowance for the expenses incurred by Claimant, but none given, and the case now admitted under the Act.
Wellesley Hughes and Thomas Somerville Left Bank of the Waitemata River This is a Claim under Pre-emption Certificate No. 133, dated 14th January 1845, for 400 acres. Com- missioner Matson reported 3rd May 1848 that Claimant had not sent in Survey; Claim thereupon disallowed 12th June 1848; now admitted under the Act.
Samuel Allen Wood In the Harbour of Whakane- wha, island of Waiheke, and called Pakareka This is a derivative claim under original Land Claim, No. 332b., of F. Hodgkinson and M. E. Murnin. Commissioner Godfrey 1st July 1843 recommended a Grant to Hodgkinson and Murnin for 400 acres with certain exceptions and reservations.
W. S. Grahame On the Manukau Harbour and called Kaiturakihi, Kakarameha and Taranotehuia This is a derivative Claim under Pre-emption Certi- ficate, No. 132, issued 14th January 1845 to Chris- topher Fulton for 700 acres. Commissioner Matson reported that Claimant had not sent in Plans. Claim disallowed accordingly 12th June 1848; now admitted under the Act.
G. O. Ormsby Onehunga This is a purchase from the Natives under Pre-emption Certificate No. 60, dated 14th October 1844, for 30 acres. Commissioner Matson in his Report of the 14th May 1847 recommended a confirmatory Grant for 30 acres, the Claimant to pay £3 per acre for the reserved tenths and the excess over the Pre- emption, amounting to 83 acres, 2 roods, 6 perches, to revert to the Crown ; 25 acres out of the 30 awarded were subsequently reserved for public pur- poses. A Grant issued by Governor Grey, 25th October 1848, to Claimant for the remaining 5 acres. Claimant refused to accept the offer made to him by Government of £35 7s. 3d. compensation for the rest of the Claim; and is now admitted under the Act for the settlement thereof.
