be notified for general information that
a Writ issued for the election of a Superinten-
dent of the Province of New Plymouth has
been returned with a certificate to the effect

Sir,-

I have to acquaint you that the Lords
Commissioners of the Treasury have decided
upon exempting from Income Tax the Divi-
dends payable in this country upon loans con-
tracted by Colonial Governments, and held by
persons wholly resident in the Colonies to
which such Loans belong respectively, upon an
applcation made to the Commissioners of In-
come Tax accompanied by a declaration that
the owner of the Stock, upon which such Divi-
dends are payable, is solely resident in such
Colony, and that no other person, resident
elsewhere, has any interest or share in such
Dividends.

Sir,-

I transmit herewith, with the view of
its being published in the Colony under your
Government, copies of a Notice which has been
issued by the Board of Trade, notifying that
the Lighthouse on Cape Race, Newfoundland,
will be ready for exhibition on the 15th of De-
cember next.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

CAPE RACE LIGHT, NEWFOUNDLAND.

The Lords of the Committee of the Privy
Council for Trade give Notice-

That the Lighthouse recently erected upon
Cape Race (Newfoundland) will be lighted,
and will continue to exhibit.

A FIXED WHITE LIGHT,

from sunset to sunrise; on and after the 15th of
December 1856.

The light will be visible to seaward from
N.E. by E. round by the S.E. and South to
West.

The light is elevated 180 feet above mean
water level of the sea, and may be seen in
clear weather 17 miles from a ship's deck. The
tower is striped red and white vertically. It
stands close to the old beacon, which has been
cut down.

The lighthouse is in.
Latitude ...... 46° 39' 12" Ν.
Longitude..... 53° 2' 38" W.
[All bearings are Magnetic. Var. 24° W.]

N.B.-A Toll will be levied upon all ves--
sels benefitting by this light.

PRINTING.

Colonial Secretary's Office;
Auckland, February 4th, 1857..

TENDERS will be received at this office
until noon on Monday the 23rd inst., for
printing the "Government Gazette" and for
such other printing as may be required for the
service of the General Government during the
twelve calendar months commencing the 1st
April next.

The Printing will be divided into two por-
tions. First, the "Government Gazette," Bills,
Acts and Estimates. Second, Blank Forms,
and all other work not included in the first
portion either or both of which may be
tendered for by one person.

Three hundred copies will be required to be
printed at each issue of the Gazette..
