Bath, Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Ma-
jesty's Colony of New Zealand,
and Vice-Admiral of the same,
&c., &c.

WHEREAS by an Act bearing date the
one thousand
eight hundred and fifty-six, passed by the Go-
vernor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and
with the consent of the General Assembly, in-
tituled, "An Act for the Naturalization of
certain persons in the Colony of New Zealand,"
it is enacted, inter alia, that all and singular
the persons who shall be declared to come
within the operation of such Act by any Pro-
clamation to be issued in that behalf by His
Excellency the Governor, shall be deemed and
taken, until the next Session of the General
Assembly, to be natural born subjects of Her
Majesty within the Colony of New Zealand.

Now, therefore, I, the Governor of the Co-
lony of New Zealand, in pursuance of the
powers and authority in me vested by the said
In part recited Act, do hereby proclaim and
declare that the persons whose names are
underwritten shall be deemed and taken to be
natural born subjects of Her Majesty from the
dates set opposite their names until the next Ses-
sion of the General Assembly, as fully to all
intents and purposes as if their names had been
inserted in the Schedule annexed to the said
Act.

WILLIAM STEWART, residing at New Ply-
mouth, from the second day of Novem-
ber, 1848. Native of the United
States of America.

ANGE FRANÇOIS RIVALLAN, residing in
Auckland, master mariner, from six-
teenth day of January, 1857. Native
of France.

the Most Honourable Order of
the Bath, Governor and Com-
mander-in-Chief in and over
Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand, and Vice-Admiral of
the same, &c., &c.

WHEREAS, by an Act of the General
Assembly of New Zealand, intituled
"The Resident Magistrates Courts Extension
of Jurisdiction Act, 1856," it is enacted that it
shall be lawful for the Governor, upon the re-
quest of the Superintendent of any Province,

Now, therefore, I, the Governor of New
Zealand, upon the request of the Superinten-
dent of the Province of Otago, do herby pro-
claim and declare that the said recited Act
shall come into operation in respect of the Re-
sident Magistrate's Court at Dunedin, in the
said Province, from and after the first day of
April, in the year, 1857, and that the said
Province of Otago shall be the District within
which cases may be heard in such Court under
the provisions of the said recited Act.

NOTIFICATION.

IN pursuance of the powers vested in the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand,
by an act of the General Assembly intituled
the "Waste Lands Act, 1856." I the Governor
do hereby notify to the Superintendent of the
Province of Canterbury in the said Colony
that the several allotments or parcels of Waste
Lands of the Crown situate within the said
Province and hereinafter mentioned are required
for the use of the General Government of the
said Colony for the several purposes respectively
specified; AND that I DO accordingly except
the said allotments or parcels of Land from
sale and reserve the same to Her Majesty, Her
heirs and successors, viz.

  1. For site for public buildings and for
    Military defence, the Island of Motunau, con-
    taining 5 acres.

  2. For Military defence, the top of the hill
    on the North side of the Town of Akaroa con-
    taining 20 acres.

  3. For a site for public buildings, allotment
    No. 71 containing 34 perches, situate at Bruces
    landing place in the town of Akaroa.

  4. For a site for public buildings, allotment
    No. 96 containing 1 rood and 4 perches, situate
    at the Middle landing place in the town of
    Akaroa.

  5. For Military defence 20 acres of land at
    Patiti Point near the town of Timaru.

  6. For sites for public buildings sections 25,
    26, 30, and 31, containing 1 acre and 13:
    perches in the town of Timaru.

All which reserves are delineated on maps
deposited in the offices of the Colonial Secretary
at Auckland, in the said Colony and in the
