15th February, 1856.

His Excellency the Governor has been
pleased to direct that the following Des-
patch which has been received from H. M.
Principal Secretary of State, should be pub-

By his Excellency's command,
ANDREW SINCLAIR,
Colonial Secretary

(Circular.—Original.)

Downing-street,
4th August, 1855.

Sir,—Cases having occurred in which
Officers of Colonial Governments have come
home without bringing with them Official
Reports from the Officers administering those
Governments of the particulars of information
which are pointed out by the Regulations of
Her Majesty's Colonial Service, I have to
call your attention to the Seventh Section of
the Tenth Chapter of those Regulations, and
to request that you will cause it to be inti-
mated to the several officers of your Govern-
ment, that if they should come home on
leave of absence, it will be impossible for me
to grant to them aditional leave, or salary,

unless upon the production by them, of your
Official Report of all the circumstances
connected with their respective cases, as
specified in the Regulations. These com-
prise a statement, whether the officer to
whom leave has been granted, had been
absent from the colony on any former occa-
sion, and if so, for what period; the ground
upon which leave has been granted; for what
term; from what date; the amount of the
salary attached to the office; up to what date
the Officer has received any payment on
account of Salary, accompanied by a certifi-
cate, to that effect from the Colonial Treasurer,
together with an explanation of the provision
which has been made for executing the duties
of the absent officer.

It is at present too commonly the habit of
gentlemen on leave of absence to quit the
Colony without these documents, trusting to
their being forwarded afterwards by the
proper officer. If, after time has been allowed
for this warning to take effect, the same
course is pursued, they must be prepared to
submit to the consequences, namely, non-
payment of half-salary until the required
documents arrive.

I have, &c., &c.,
W. MOLESWORTH.

IN THE SUPREME COURT OF NEW
ZEALAND.

In the Estate of PATRICK NUCKLEY, of Auck-
land, deceased, Intestate.

PURSUANT to the Rule of this Honor-
able Court the creditors of the above-
named intestate are, on or before the twelfth
day of May next, to come in and prove their
debts before Laughlin O'Brien, Esq., at his
office in the Court house, Queen-street,
Auckland; or in default thereof, they will
be peremptorily excluded from all benefit
arising from the said estate.

L. O'BRIEN,
Registrar.

Supreme Court Office, Auckland,
12th February, 1856.

CUSTOMS.

Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland,
16th February, 1856.

NOTICE is hereby given that, whereas
provision can now be made by means of
Insurance against losses of goods on which
the Customs duties have been paid, either by
fire or by any other casualty to which such
merchandize is liable, no claim for drawback
of Duty on property so destroyed will for the
future be entertained by the Government.

By His Excellency's command,
ANDREW SINCLAIR,
Colonial Secretary
