JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS
OF THE
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 10th, 1847.
Present-His Excellency the Governor and
five Members. Mr. Merriman took the seat
vacant by the resignation of Mr. Donnelly.
Absent-Mr. Domett.
Council met pursuant to adjournment; mi-
nutes of last meeting read and confirmed.
The Attorney-General moved the order of
the day for the third reading of the Native
Force Bill.
Bill read a third time and passed.
The Colonial Secretary moved the order of
the day for the third reading of the 'Gun-
powder Bill.'
Bill read a third time and passed.
Mr. Brown moved the order of the day for
the second reading of the 'Savings' Bank
Bill.'
Bill read a second time.
On the motion of Mr. Brown-bill com-
mitted, and further consideration thereof post-
poned until Thursday, the 12th instant.
On the motion of the Attorney-General,-
Council in Committee for the further consider-
ation of the Spirits' Bill,'
Bill considered and amended, and further
postponed until Thursday next, when the At-
torney-General would move the third reading
of the said bill.
The Colonial Secretary gave notice that he
should move the second reading of the
'Slaughter-house Bill,' on Thursday next.
The Lieut. Governor laid on the table the
draft of a bill, entitled "An Ordinance for re-
gulating Marriages in New Zealand."
Ordered to be printed.
Council adjourned at 4 o'clock until 2
o'clock on Thursday, the 12th instant.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 12th:
Present-His Excellency and five Members;
absent, Mr. Domett.
Council met pursuant to adjournment; mi-
nutes of last meeting read and confirmed.
Mr. Brown moved the order of the day for
the further consideration in committee of the
'Savings Bank Bill.'
Bill considered and amended, and commit-
tee adjourned until Saturday, the 14th inst.
On the motion of the Attorney-General-
Council in committee on the 'Spirits' Bill.'
Report brought up and adopted, and the
Attorney-General moved the order of the day
for the third reading of the said bill.
Bill read a third time and passed.
The Colonial Secretary moved the order of
the day for the second reading of the 'Slaughter-
house Bill.'
Bill read second time.
The petition from certain Butchers in Auck-
land on the subject of the said bill was read.
The Colonial Secretary gave notice that he
should move on Saturday next, that the Coun-
cil do go into committee on the 'Slaughter-
house Bill.'
