The Attorney General moved the order of
the day for the first reading of the "Bill for
the Government and Discipline of Native
Troops."
Bill read a first time accordingly.
The Attorney General moved the order of
the day for the first reading of the "Spirits
Bill." Bill read a first time.
The Colonial Secretary moved the order of
the day for the first reading of the "Gunpow-
der Bill."
Bill read a first time.
The Attorney General gave notice that he
should move that the bill for the Govern-
ment and Discipline of Native Troops. be
read a second time on Thursday, the 29th
instant.
The Attorney General gave notice that he
should move that the Spirits Bill,, be read a
second time on Thursday, the 29th instant.
The Colonial Secretary gave notice that
he should move that the Gunpowder Bill
be read a second time on Thursday, the 29th
instant.
Mr. Donnelly gave notice that he should
move that the Slaughter house Bill be read
a first time on Thursday, the 29th inst.
The Council adjourned at half-past 2, until
2 o'clock on Thursday, the 29th Instant.
THURSDAY, 29th JULY.
Present-His Excellency the Governor, and
five Members, absent, Mr. Domett.
Council met pursuant to adjournment.
Minutes of the last meeting were read and
confirmed.
The Attorney General moved the order of
the day for the second reading of the 'Na-
tive Force Bill.'
On the title being read-
The Attorney General moved that the
Council do go into Committee on the said
bill.
On the title being read,-ordered that fur-
ther consideration thereof be postponed.
Preamble read, amended, and agreed to.
On the first clause being read, ordered that
clause do stand as amended.
Mr. Brown moved that an additional clause
be inserted after the first clause.
On the motion of the Attorney General, -
ordered that further consideration of said
bill be adjourned until Saturday, the 31st
instant.-
The Attorney General moved the order of
the day for the second reading of the Spirits
Bill.'
Bill read a second time.
On the motion of the Attorney General,
ordered that the bill be considered in Com-
mittee, on Saturday, the 31st instant.
The Colonial Secretary moved the order
of the day for the second reading of the
'Gunpowder Bill.'
Bill read a second time.
On motion of the Colonial Secretary, the
Council went into Committee on said bill.
Title read and agreed to.
On 1st clause being read, it was ordered
that further consideration thereof be post-
poned.
2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th clauses, read and
agreed to,
On the 6th clause being read, ordered that
further consideration thereof, be postponed,
7th and 8th clauses read and agreed to,
On motion of the Colonial Secretary fur-
ther consideration of the said bill in Com-
mittee, was postponed to Saturday, the 31st
instant.
The first reading of the 'Slaughter-house
Bill' postponed until Saturday, the 31st inst.
His Excellency laid on the table a Bill to
authorise the establishment of a Colonial
Bank of Issue, by the Government of New
Zealand, to make and issue a Paper Currency,
and to prohibit the making and issuing of
paper money by private individuals.
Ordered that the said bill be printed.
The Council adjourned at 4 o'clock, until
2 o'clock on Saturday, the 31st inst.
SATURDAY, 31st JULY.
Present-His Excellency the Governor, and
five members, absent Mr. Domett.
Council met pursuant to adjournment.
Minutes of last meeting were read and
confirmed.
His Excellency laid on the table a memo-
rial from certain Butchers in Auckland, on
the subject of Slaughter House Bill.
The Attorney General moved the order of
the day for the further consideration in com-
mittee, of the 'Native Force Bill.'
On the motion of Mr. Brown, an additional
clause after 1st clause clause read and
agreed to.
On motion of the Attorney General further
consideration in Committee, on said bill,
postponed until Tuesday, 3rd August.
The Attorney General moved the order of
the day that Council do go into committee on
the 'Spirits Bill.'
Bill considered, amended, and further con-
sideration thereof postponed, until Tuesday,
3rd August.
His Excellency laid on the table the fol-
lowing reports, viz :-
1st Report on the progress of the line of
road from Wellington to the Wairarapa dis-
trict, by Mr. Fitzgerald, surveyor, dated
Wellington, 1st July, 1847.
2nd Report from Capt. Russell, 58th regt.,
Superintendent of Military Roads, dated
Wellington, 24th June, 1847, on the progress
