tures, issued at Auckland under the Regu-
lations of the 18th June, and 24th Nov. 1845,
that the Interest thereon, will be payable at

20th instant.
It is requested that application may be
made by persons entitled to receive the same,
before the close of the present month.
ALEXANDER SHEPHERD.
Colonial Treasurer.
Colonial Secretary's Office,
Auckland, 10th October, 1846.
HIS Excellency the Lieutenant Governor
has been pleased to direct that the
following Despatch, from the Inspector of
Police at Taranaki, be published for general
information.
By His Excellency's command,
ANDREW SINCLAIR,
Colonial Secretary.
Taranaki, New Plymouth,
August 7th, 1846.
SIR, - I have the honor to inform you that
the Waikato tribes, and those of the West
Coast who came to meet them, have all quietly
dispersed to their respective settlements.
This being the largest concourse of Natives
(in all 1000) that have visited this settlement
since its first establishment, I have pleasure in
stating, that with one or two unimportant ex-
ceptions, their good conduct entirely exceeded
my expectations,
I believe that the caution given their Chiefs
on their first arrival, that their aid and assist-
ance should be expected in bringing any of-
fenders of their party to justice, as well as
nominally connecting one or two of their young
men with the Police, had a good effect in pre-
venting depredations.
With the advice of the Police Magistrate,
Captain King, who saw the Chiefs at my place,
some presents were promised them for good
behaviour of their followers, accounts of which
I have handed to that gentleman for trans-
mission to Auckland, and for the approval of
his Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor.
I have the honor to remain,
Sir,
Your most obedient servant,
DONALD M'LEAN,
Inspector of Police.
The Hon. the Colonial Secretary,
&c., &c., &c.
