NOTICE.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Auckland, 14th November, 1843.
WHEREAS by an Ordinance, enacted by
the Governor of New Zealand, with
the advice and consent of the Legislative Coun-
cil, Session I, No. 2, the Governor of New
Zealand is empowered to appoint Commissioners
to hear, examine, and report upon Claims to
Land alleged to have been purchased from the
Chiefs or other Individuals of the Aboriginal
Tribes inhabiting New Zealand.

And whereas, it is enacted by the said Ordi-
nance, that the Commissioners to be appointed
shall, in examining such Claims, enquire into
and set forth the consideration paid for Land so
claimed, and the date and other circumstances
attending the purchase thereof; and shall also
enquire into and set forth the number of acres
which such payment would have been equivalent
to, according to the rates fixed in the Schedule
marked B, to the said Ordinance annexed; and
that if they shall be satisfied that the persons
claiming such Lands are entitled to a Grant of
the same, or of any part thereof, the said Com-
missioners shall report the same to the said
Governor, and after making the reservation for
public purposes required by the said Ordinance,
shall set forth the situation, measurement and
boundaries by which the said Land so recom-
mended to be granted may be described in such
Grant, with the name of the party to whom it
should issue. But it is also provided, that
nothing in the said Ordinance contained shall
be held to oblige the said Governor to make
and deliver any such Grants as aforesaid, unless
he shall deem it proper so to do.

Now, notice is hereby given, that the Com-
missioners have made their Reports on the
Claims in the Schedule hereunto annexed, and
that His Excellency the Officer Administering
the Government has been pleased to approve and
confirm the same accordingly.
