PROCLAMATION.


By His Excellency William Hobson,
ESQUIRE, Captain in Her Ma-
jesty's Royal Navy, and Go-
vernor and Commander in
Chief in and over Her Majes-
ty's Colony of New Zealand,
and its Dependencies, and Vice
Admiral of the same, &c. &c.

WHEREAS, by Letters Patent, under the
Great Seal of the High Court of Ad-
miralty of England, bearing date the thirteenth
day of March, 1841, Her Majesty has been gra-
ciously pleased to ordain, constitute, and depute
me, WILLIAM HOBSON, ESQUIRE, Captain in Her
Majesty's Royal Navy, to be Her Majesty's Vice-
Admiral, Commissary, and Deputy in the office of
Vice-Admiralty in Her Colony of New Zealand,
and to the Territories thereon depending; to take
cognizance of, and proceed in all causes, civil and
maritime, and in complaints, contracts, offences, or
suspected offences, crimes, and misdemeanors or,

Now, I, the Governor and Commander-in-
Chief of the Colony of New Zealand aforesaid,
in pursuance of the above authority, do hereby
appoint WILLIAM MARTIN, ESQUIRE, Chief
Justice of the Supreme Court of this Colony, my
Deputy, with full power to take cognizance of,
and proceed in all the matters, and to hear and
determine the same in manner aforesaid.

Auckland, 22nd January, 1842.

HIS Excellency the GOVERNOR has been
pleased to direct it to be notified, that
until Claims to Land within this Colony shall
have been finally disposed of, all persons who
have preferred their Claims before the Commis-
sioners appointed for hearing the same, will be
allowed to cut Kauri or other Timber on the Land
claimed by them, without interruption by the
Crown.
