PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency WILLIAM HOBSON,
Esquire, Captain in Her Majesty's Royal
Navy, and Governor and Commander-in-
Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice Admiral of the same, &c. &c.

WHEREAS, by a Royal Charter, bearing
date the 16th day of November, 1840,
"for creating the Colony of New Zealand, and
for creating and establishing a Legislative
Council and an Executive Council, and for
granting certain powers and authorities to the
Governor, for the time being of the said Colony,"
Her Majesty Queen Victoria did give and grant
to the Governor of the said Colony of New
Zealand for the time being, full power and au-
thority, with the advice and consent of the Exe-
cutive Council, to issue a Proclamation or Pro-
clamations, dividing the said Colony into dis-
tricts, counties, hundreds, towns, townships,
and parishes, and to appoint the limits thereof
respectively. Now, therefore, I, the Governor,
in pursuance of the said authority, with the ad-
vice and consent of the Executive Council, do
hereby proclaim and declare that, that part of
the Colony of New Zealand which is comprised
within the following description, shall form a
County, and shall be called the County of Eden.

DESCRIPTION.

Commencing at the Native settlement Pe-
hiakura on the West Coast, and to the
southward of the entrance of the Manukau
Harbour, and from that settlement to the
source of the River or Creek Kahiaiku, fol-
lowing its source in the centre channel to Te
Toto, thence in a straight line to the Native
Pah Waitete, thence to the settlement of Papa-
kura to the River Wairoa, following its course
in the centre channel to the Sea Coast, thence
along the coast including the islands Matarahui,
Moerangi, Motu Korea, Rangitoto, Motutapu,
Motuihi, Tiritirimatangi, Wangapa-
raua, Te Kauwau, Pokohura, Te Wara, to the
centre channel of the entrance to Matakana,
thence to the River Tapora, (a tributary of the
Kaipara) following its course in the centre chan-
nel to the entrance of the harbour of Kaipara,
and from that harbour traversing the line of
coast to the commencing point, being the native
settlement Pehiakura before mentioned.

Zealand, this twenty-seventh day of
July, in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and forty-
two.
