pleased to appoint
MR. ROBERT ROGER STRANG,
to be Clerk of the Peace and Registrar of the
Court of Requests, for the Town of Wellington
and District of Port Nicholson.

HIS Excellency the GOVERNOR directs it to
be notified, that the under-mentioned
portions of Land in Port Nicholson are reserved
by the Crown for Public Purposes, viz:-
Certain Allotments in the Town of Wellington,
distinguished on the Company's Plan by the let-
ters A, B, C, &c.
The belt of Land which surrounds the Town
of Wellington, extending from the external
Boundaries of the said Town to the summits of
the Mountain Ranges, and which is coloured
green on the said plan.
A portion of Land at Point Jeningham,
Ditto ditto at Point Halswell,
Ditto ditto at Point Waddell,
Ditte ditto at Baring Head.
The Governor further directs it to be notified,
that any person cutting Timber, or Firewood on
the Reserves, and especially on the belt which
surrounds the Town of Wellington, will be pro-
ceeded against according to Law.

WILLOUGHBY SHORTLAND.
HIS Excellency the GOVERNOR, has been
pleased to direct it to be notified for the
information of Foreigners claiming Land in New
Zealand by purchase, from the Natives prior
to the Proclamation issued by His Excellency
Sir George Gipps, bearing date, the 14th day of
January, 1840, that by a Dispatch from the Right
Hon. Her Majesty's principal Secretary of State for
the Colonies, it is ordered that all claims whether
British or Foreign be investigated and disposed of
by the Commissioners appointed for that purpose.
Such Foreigners, therefore, as have not already
forwarded the particulars of their Claims to this
Government are required to send them to this
Office without delay.
These particulars should set forth the precise
situation of the Land claimed, its extent and
boundaries, the names of the Native Sellers, and
the consideration paid to them, and, in case of the
claim being derivative, the names of the interme-
diate possessors of the Land, and of the original
purchaser, and the consideration given by him to
the Natives.

NOTICE.
Post Office, Wellington,
9th September, 1841.
NOTICE is Hereby Given, that letters will
be transmitted overland from Wellington
to Wanganui by Post, every alternate Monday,
commencing on Monday, the 20th instant: and
from Wanganui to Wellington, on the interme-
diate Mondays, commencing on the 27th instant.
The rate of postage will be as follows:
For a single lett r one shilling.
For a double letter two shillings.
For all other letters or parcels weighing one
ounce or upwards, at the rate of three shillings
and sixpence per ounce.
All letters designed for overland carriage must
be marked on the outside "overland;" or they
will be transmitted by sea, as opportunities occur,
subject to the usual charges of sea-postage.
All newspapers will be forwarded free of post-
age by sea, unless marked "overland;" in which
case they will be subject to a charge of three
pence each.

HIS Excellency the GOVERNOR directs that
the following description of the bounda-
ries of the Town of Wellington be declared for
the information of the public, in reference to his
Excellency's Proclamation of this date.
On the northern side, the shores of Lambton-
Harbour from Pah Kewa to the north-eastern ex-
tremity of the Crown Reserve, near Point
Jerningham; and on all other sides, the summit
of the mountain ranges forming the entire boun-
daries of the Crown Reserve around the Town,
as shewn on the Company's Plan.
