HIS EXCELLENCY the GOVERNOR-IN-CHIEF directs it to be notified that the General Legislative Council of New Zealand will meet for the despatch of business at the Council Chamber, Wellington, on Monday, the 19th of May next.

HIS EXCELLENCY the GOVERNOR-IN-CHIEF directs it to be notified that the following Bills will be submitted to the General Legislative Council at its ensuing Session.

A Bill to substitute fixed duties of Customs in lieu of certain ad valorem duties at present levied.

A Bill to regulate the occupation of Waste Lands of the Crown in the Province of New Munster.

HIS EXCELLENCY the GOVERNOR-IN-CHIEF directs the publication, for general information, of the following Abstract of an Ordinance for determining Claims to Land, to be submitted to the General Legislative Council at its ensuing Session.

A BILL to ascertain the Contracts and Engagements entered into by the New Zealand Company for the Disposal of Lands in the Colony of New Zealand, and to provide for the Completion of such Contracts and Engagements by the Colonial Government :

Recites the establishment of the New Zealand Company by Royal Charter, and that the said Company, while in possession of said charter, entered into certain contracts for the sale of land to divers persons, but that in certain cases possession of the land had not been given by the Company to the purchasers; that in consequence of the surrender of the charter by the Company, the lands of the Company revert to and become vested in Her Majesty as part of the demesne lands of the Crown, subject to any contracts then subsisting; and that it is desirable that means should be taken for ascertaining what are the contracts of the said Company now subsisting with regard to the said lands, with a view to their satisfactory adjustment; and that deeds of grant, conveying a valid title, might speedily be issued :

Enacts, that the Governor shall have power to appoint one or more commissioners for examining and reporting upon claims to land made by persons claiming title through the New Zealand Company; and that the commissioners shall take an oath faithfully to execute the trust and powers reposed in them,
