Sir,

I have received your despatch No. 39, of the 27th of March last, transmitting copies of three Proclamations of the dates specified in the margin, which you had issued for the purpose of regulating the depasturing of cattle on the Waste Lands of the Crown, in the Province of New Ulster.

  1. I quite concur in the expediency of this measure, and I attach great importance to the effects which it may produce. I especially approve of the manner in which you have introduced into one of these proclamations the principle of elective management of Crown Lands, and I trust that it may tend eventually to all the benefits which you have so clearly pointed out as likely to attend that arrangement.

TENDERS FOR HAY.

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Auckland, April 2, 1850.

TENDERS will be received at this Office, until noon on Monday, the 15th inst. for the supply of HAY in such quantities as may be required for the Colonial Government during the six months commencing on the 19th instant.

The tender to state the price per Ton at which the Hay will be delivered at the Government Stables in Mechanics’ Bay.

Any further information may be obtained at the office of the Superintendent of Works.

The tender must be in duplicate, sealed, and endorsed “Tender for Hay.”

IN pursuance of the 20th clause of the “Resident Magistrates’ Ordinance,” I do hereby Select and Appoint the following Persons of the native race to be Assessors along with the Resident Magistrate, at New Plymouth, for settling disputes between persons of the native race; that is to say:—

Honi Ropiha Ngamotu, a chief of the tribe of Ngamotu.
Poharama, a chief of the tribe of Ngamotu.
E Waka, a chief of the tribe of Ngamotu.
Honi Ropiha Utuhia, a chief of the tribe of Ngamotu.
Rawiri Waiana, a chief of the tribe of Puketapu.
Te Tahana, a chief of the tribe of Puketapu.

GENERAL ANNUAL LICENSING MEETING.

NOTICE is hereby given that a Meeting of the Justices of the Peace for the District of Howick, will be helden at the Court House, Howick, on Tuesday, the 16th day of April next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, for the purpose of taking into consideration applications for Publicans’ Licenses.
