PROCLAMATION;

Knight of the Royal Hanoverian Guelphic Order, Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of New Ulster, &c., &c., &c.
The Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of New Ulster, do hereby proclaim that at eleven o’clock on Thursday, the twenty-first day of December, one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight, the Colonial Treasurer will put up to Auction, at the Colonial Treasury at Auckland, the undermentioned allotments of Land, hereby declared to be within the limits of settlement.
Immediate payment in cash to be an indispensable condition of sale.

CAUTION.
HARBOURING DESERTERS.
Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Auckland, 24th August, 1843.
His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor has directed the following clause in the Mutiny Act, 10 Vict. c. 12, to be published for general information.
"And be it enacted, that if any Person who shall in any part of Her Majesty’s dominions, by words, or by any other means whatsoever, directly or indirectly, procure any Soldier to desert, or shall by words, or by any other means whatsoever, attempt to procure or persuade any Soldier to desert, and any person who knowing that any Soldier is about to desert, shall aid or assist him in deserting, or knowing any Soldier to be a Deserter, shall conceal such Deserter, or aid or assist him in concealing himself, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanour, and shall on conviction thereof, be liable to be punished by fine, or imprisonment, or both, as the Court before which such conviction shall take place may adjudge."
And the Lieutenant-Governor directs notice to be hereby given, that no Timber, occupation, or other license, will be renewed by the Government, in favour of any Person who shall be found aiding or assisting any Soldier so deserting, by harbouring, concealing, or employing him, or in any other manner howsoever.

His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor has been pleased to appoint Benjamin Woods, Serjeant-major of the Armed Police Force at Russell,—to lay complaints and informations in terms of the 1st clause of the “Native Land Purchase Ordinance,” Session 7, No. 19.

Notice is hereby given, that His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor has been pleased to approve the Port of Mangonui, in the Province of New Ulster, as a “Port of Entry,” for the Colony.
