By His Excellency’s command,
ALFRED DOMETT,

Wellington, December 24th, 1852.
SIR,—I have the honor to inform your Excellency that I have examined some of the flake Gold from Auckland, marked No. 6, and I have been unable to detect any silver in it. But I am inclined to think that its dull color is due to the presence of minute crystals of quartz, which appear to be intimately mixed with the metal.
I have, &c.,
