Notice to Mariners.

NOTICE is hereby given, by the
authority of his Excellency the
Lieutenant-Governor, that on and after
the 10th January, 1852, the Light in the
Sturt Light-house, lately erected on Cape
Willoughby, Kangaroo Island, will be
exhibited from sunset to sunrise.
This Lighthouse is situated on the
eastern extremity of Kangaroo Island, in
lat. 35° 49' 20" S., long. 138° 12' 30"
E., and is a Revolving Light, appearing at
regular intervals of one and a half a
minute. This light is elevated 241 feet
above the level of the sea, and can be
seen 24 nautical miles, illuminating 259
degrees of a circle, from N. by W. half
W., round to S. by W. half W.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
Horsburgh Light-House.
NOTICE is hereby given, that a
Light-House bearing the above
designation in commemoration of the
celebrated Hydrographer, has been erected on Pedra Branca; a rock which lies
off the eastern entrance of the Straits of
Singapore. The Light will be exhibited
on the night of the 15th October, 1851,
and every night thereafter from sunset
to sunrise.
The following is a specification of the
position of the Light-house; the dangers which come within the influence of
its Light, and the appearance of the
Light—by Mr. J. T. Thomson, Government Surveyor.
The Light-house is situated according
to the Admiralty Chart in Lat. 1° 20’
20" N. and Long. 104° 25’ East of
Greenwich and by Compass bears from
Barbucet Point—East distant 12½ miles,
and from the N. E. point of Bintang N.
W. by W. ¾ W. distant 12 miles.
The following rocks and shoals lying
in the way of vessels—and coming within
the influence of the Light, bear from the
Light-house:

The Light will be known to mariners
as a revolving bright Light which gradually attains its brightest period once
every minute and as gradually declines
until it totally disappears to the distant
observer—whilst, when viewed from a
short distance, it is never entirely invisible.
The lantern, which is open all round,
elevated 95 feet above the level of the
sea at High Water Spring Tides, will be
seen from the deck of a vessel at a
distance of 15 Nautical miles.
As a beacon during the day the Light-
House will be known by the following
description. It stands on a rock which
measures 150 feet long and 100 broad,
and is 21 feet high at its highest point
above the level of H. W. Sp. Tides.
The Light-House is a pillar of dressed
granite, and the Lantern covered by a
Spherical dome which is painted white.
