OF THE ISLANDS OF NEW ZEALAND.
WELLINGTON, TUESDAY, JULY 15, 1851.
Present—
His Excellency Sir GEORGE GREY, K.C.B.,
Governor-in-Chief.
His Excellency EDWARD JOHN EYRE, Lieutenant-Governor of New Munster, and the Members as on Friday last.
The Council met pursuant to adjournment.
The Rev. the Colonial Chaplain read prayers.
The minutes of the last meeting read and confirmed.
Captain Smith presented a petition from James Storah, of the district of the Hutt, settler, on the subject of compensation for losses sustained in 1846, during the disturbances in that district.
Petition received.
Mr. Bell brought forward his question—Whether the Land Fund Appropriation Ordinance be not repugnant to the Act 10 and 11 Vic. c. CXII, intituled an “Act to promote colonization in New Zealand, and to authorize a loan to the New Zealand Company.”
The Attorney General of New Zealand replied.
On the motion of the Colonial Treasurer, seconded by Col. M'Cleverty, “Marriage Amendment Ordinance” read at third time and passed.
The Colonial Secretary of New Zealand moved for the following returns :—
Comparative statement of the European population of the principal districts of New Zealand, according to returns drawn up at the end of each of the years 1848, 1849, and 1850.
Comparative statement of the estimated value of the Exports and Imports of New Zealand during the years 1848, 1849 and 1850.
