Mr. Carkeek moved that the standing rules relative to the reading of a bill be for this occasion suspended, in order to move the third reading of Customs Ordinance.

On the motion of Mr. Carkeek, seconded by Mr. Bell, Customs Ordinance read a third time and passed.

Mr. Bell gave notice that on Tuesday next he should move the second reading of Building Societies Bill.

The Colonial Secretary of New Munster gave notice that at the next meeting of Council he should move further consideration in committee of Naturalization Bill.

The Attorney General of New Zealand gave notice that on consideration of Naturalization Bill he should move the insertion of the following clause :—

And whereas there are certain other persons resident at whom it is expedient to relieve from the disabilities to which aliens are by law subject, but whose names and description have not been accurately ascertained. Be it enacted that all and singular, the persons who shall be declared to come within the operation of this Ordinance, by any Proclamation to be issued in that behalf by His Excellency the Governor in-Chief, shall be deemed and taken within the Islands of New Zealand to be natural born subjects of her Majesty, as fully to all intents and purposes as if their names had respectively been inserted in the schedule hereunto annexed.

The Attorney General of New Zealand gave notice that on Tuesday next he should move the third reading of Provincial Councils Ordinance.

Mr. Dillon gave notice that at the next meeting of Council he should move for the following returns :—

A return of the amount realised by the sale of Crown lands in the Province of New Munster since the resumption of those lands by the Crown.

Also, for a map of so much of the Middle Island as will shew the relative positions of the settlements of Otago, Canterbury, Nelson and the districts between each of those settlements.

His Excellency then adjourned the Council at twenty minutes to five o’clock, p.m., to Tuesday next the 8th day of July, at two o’clock.
