Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 12th June, 1851.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVER-
NOR-IN-CHIEF has been pleased to
direct the publication of the following
letter for general information.

By His Excellency’s command,
Alfred Domett,
Colonial Secretary.

Superintendent’s Office,
Nelson, 2nd April, 1151.

Sir,—In forwarding for the information of His
Excellency the Governor-in-Chief a list of the Plans
and Records relating to the land in this settlement,
handed over to the Government by the late Resident
Agent of the New Zealand Company, it is due to
Mr. Bell as well as gratifying to us to put on re-
cord the very satisfactory state in which we found
the books in particular being carefully pre-
pared by Mr. Bell reflect the highest credit upon
him, and must evidently have been made up at great
personal labor and assiduity, setting forth as they
do the detail of each claim so circumstantially and
clearly that every information and facility exists for
the preparation of the Crown Grants without any
difficulty or delay, except of course the usual in-
vestigation which will be required by the Crown
Solicitor.

We have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient humble servants,
M. Richmond, Superintendent.
John Poynter, Crown Solicitor.

Board appointed by His Excellency the Governor-
in-Chief.

The Honorable the Colonial Secretary,
Wellington.
