On the motion of Mr. Hickson further consideration of Schedule adjourned, and Council resumed.
On the motion of Col. M'Cleverty, seconded by the Colonial Secretary of New Zealand, Council in Committee on “Land Fund Appropriation Bill.”
Title—Preamble—and Clauses 1 and 2 read, amended, and agreed to.
On the motion of Col. M'Cleverty, Council resumed, and the report being brought up, adopted.
The Attorney-General of New Munster gave notice that on Tuesday next, he should move the first reading of “A Bill for shortening the Language used in Ordinances.”
His Excellency then adjourned the Council at 4 o’clock, p.m., to Tuesday next, the 10th day of June, at 2 o’clock.
TUESDAY, JUNE 10, 1851.
Present—
His Excellency the Governor-in-Chief, also the Colonial Secretary of New Munster, and the members as on Friday last.
Absent—
His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor.
The Hon. the Colonial Treasurer.
The Council met pursuant to adjournment.
The Rev. the Colonial Chaplain read prayers.
The Minutes of the last meeting read and confirmed.
His Excellency laid on the table an Extract from a Despatch from the Lieutenant-Governor of New Ulster on the subject of that portion of Land Claimants Bill relating to Scrip.
Capt. Smith moved the second reading of “Land Claimants Bill.”
The Attorney-General of New Zealand seconded the motion.
Debate ensued.
Motion adopted and bill read a second time accordingly.
On the motion of the Colonial Secretary of New Munster, Council in Committee on “Census Bill.”
Title and Clauses 1 and 2, read, amended, and further consideration of this bill in Committee postponed.
On the motion of the Colonial Secretary of New Munster, Council resumed.
On the motion of the Attorney-General of New Munster, seconded by the Attorney-General of New Zealand, “A Bill for shortening the Language used in Ordinances,” read a first time.
Captain Smith gave notice that to-morrow he should move, that Council do go into Committee on “Land Claimants Bill.”
The Colonial Secretary of New Munster gave notice that to-morrow he should move the further consideration, in Committee, of “Census Bill.”
The Attorney-General of New Munster gave notice, that to-morrow he should move the second reading of “Language Ordinance Bill.”
His Excellency then adjourned the Council at half-past 5 o’clock, p.m., to Wednesday, June 11th, at 2 o’clock.

On the motion of Captain Smith, Council resumed.
On the motion of the Colonial Secretary of New Munster, further consideration of “Census Bill” adjourned in order that the bill be reprinted.
The Attorney-General of New Munster moved the second reading of “Language Ordinance Bill.”
Motion seconded by the Attorney-General of New Zealand, and agreed to, and bill read a second time accordingly.
On the motion of the Attorney-General of New Munster, Council in Committee on this bill.
Title—Preamble—and Clauses 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, read, amended, and agreed to, further consideration of Clauses 3 and 7 postponed, and on the motion of the Attorney-General of New Munster, Council resumed.
Mr. Cautley gave notice that, to-morrow, he should move for the following Returns: “Return of the quantity of land sold by the New Zealand Company in the settlements of Wellington and Wanganui, Nelson, New Plymouth, and Otago; with the price of the same per acre or allotment. Also of the names of the several districts in each settlement, in which such lands may have been selected, together with the distance of such district from the principal town of the settlement to which it belongs; and the gross amount of land originally surveyed, and the number of acres selected in each of such districts, Also
