PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency EDWARD JOHN EYRE, Esquire, Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of New Munster, in the Islands of New Zealand, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council, Session VIII., No. 5, intituled “An Ordinance for regulating the Slaughtering of Cattle in certain places,” it is enacted, “that it shall be lawful for his Excellency the Governor (or Lieutenant-Governor) by Proclamation from time to time to constitute and define certain Districts,” within which the provisions of the said Ordinance shall come into operation.

Now therefore I, the Lieutenant-Governor of New Munster aforesaid, in pursuance of the authority by the said in part recited Ordinance in me vested, do hereby proclaim and declare that, on and after the first day of May next, the towns of Lyttelton and Christchurch, in the Canterbury Settlement, and a distance of three miles around each such town in every direction, the limits and bounds of which towns respectively being such as are described and delineated in the authorised plans of the Canterbury Association, shall come within the operation of the said Ordinance.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of New Munster, in the Islands (I.S.) of New Zealand, at Government House, at Wellington, this Eighth day of April, in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty-one.

to be Commissioner of Crown Lands for the District of Canterbury.

The appointment to have effect from the 16th December last.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-IN-CHIEF directs it to be notified that it is his intention to submit to the General Legislative Council at its approaching Session, the following Bills :

A Bill to regulate the occupation of Waste Lands of the Crown in the Province of New Munster. An abstract of which is given below.

A Bill to impose in some cases fixed duties of Customs, in lieu of the Ad Valorem duties at present levied.

A Bill to amend the Marriage Ordinance of Sect. 8, No. 7. (Already printed in the New Munster Government Gazette, of 8th December, 1849.)

  18. Amount due recoverable by Districts.

  19. In case of non-payment, License may be cancelled.
