"Peace residing within the district, shall
"Memorialize His Excellency the Lieu-
tenant-Governor, stating their desire
"that the said Ordinance or any part
"thereof, should be brought into opera-
tion within such district, or any portion
"thereof, the Lieutenant-Governor, by
"and with the consent of the Executive
"Council may proclaim the district, or
"portion thereof so indicated by the said
"Justices to be within the operation of
"the said Ordinance, or such part thereof
"accordingly."

And whereas, a majority of the Justices
of the District of Wellington, have memorialized His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor, to the effect, that the 14th
clause of the aforesaid Ordinance, should
be brought into operation within such
portions of the said District, as are hereinafter described.

Now, therefore I, the Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of New Munster,
aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare
that the 14th clause of the Ordinance
aforesaid, shall be brought into operation
within the District of Wellington afore-
said, as far as regards that part of the
Wairarapa Road which extends from
Wellington to the Silver Stream in the
Upper Valley of the Hutt, and that part
of the North-Western Road which extends from Wellington to the Sea Beach
at Pakakairiki.

Given under my hand, and issued
under the Public Seal of the
Province of New Munster, at
Government House at Wellington, this eighth day of May, in
the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and fifty.

PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency Edward John
Eyre, Esquire, Lieutenant-Governor
nor of the Province of New Munster, in the Islands of New Zealand, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS, by an Ordinance enacted
by the Lieutenant-Governor of
New Zealand, by and with the advice and
consent of the Legislative Council thereof,
Session VII, No. 7, intituled "An Ordinance for the Regulation of Prisons," it is
enacted that, "it shall be lawful for His
Excellency the Governor from time to
time, as to him shall seem meet, by Pro-
clamation, to declare any House, Build-
ing, Enclosure, or Place, to be a Public
Gaol; and from and after the publication
of any such Proclamation, such House,
Building, Enclosure, or Place, shall be
deemed and taken to be a Public Gaol."

And Whereas, by another Ordinance, enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor of the
Province of New Munster, by and with
the advice of the Legislative Council
thereof, Session I, No. 5, intituled "An
Ordinance to confer upon the Lieutenant
Governor of New Munster within the Province, the same powers in certain cases,
as are conferred upon the Officer administering the Government of the
Colony for the time being," it is provided
that all such powers as are conferred
by the Ordinances enumerated in the
schedule thereto appended, "upon the
Governor, Lieutenant Governor, or Offi-
cer Administering the Government
of the Colony for the time being, shall
be, and are hereby within the Province
of New Munster, conferred on the
Lieutenant-Governor thereof.

And Whereas, the Ordinance aforesaid is included in the said schedule: And Whereas, it is desirable that the Building now
used as a Lockup in the Town of Dun-
eden, in the District of Otago, in the
Province of New Munster, should be proclaimed to be a Public Gaol of the Colony. Now, therefore, I, the said Lieutenant-Governor of the said Province of New
Munster, do hereby proclaim and declare
that the Building aforesaid, shall be
deemed and taken to be one of the Public
Gaols of the Colony of New Zealand.

Given under my Hand, and Issued
under the Public Seal of the Province of New Munster, in the
Islands of New Zealand, at Government House, at Wellington,
this Eleventh day of May, in the
year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and fifty.

ALL Persons found cutting Timber on
the Public Belt of this Town, or
destroying the underwood, will be prosecuted with the utmost rigour of the
Law. Dated at Wellington, this sixth
day of May, 1850.
