Original motion then put and carried, and clause two with title and preamble considered and agreed to. The Order of the Day for resuming the Committee on Customs Duties Ordinance, 1848, read and postponed.

The Colonial Secretary gave notice that on that day, the 28th day of June, he should move the third reading of this Bill.

Mr. Hickson gave notice that on Thursday next he should bring up the report of Committee on Customs’ Duties.

The Colonial Secretary gave notice of the following motion to be proposed on Thursday next:—

“That the motion of Mr. Seymour, Council Communications, be postponed to Ordinances.”

The minutes of last meeting read and confirmed.

On the motion of Dr. Greenwood the Ordinary Routine Committee, and verbal alteration made as per Mr. Moore.

On the motion of Dr. Greenwood, Council resumed and the report brought up and read.

Mr. Hickson moved that the Committee had considered the Ordinance of a fixed time, seconded by the Attorney-General.

Motion agreed to, and Bill read a third time, and passed.

The Colonial Secretary gave notice that he would on Friday next move Bill to read a third time, seconded by the Colonial Secretary.

Mr. Hickson moved, seconded by Dr. Greenwood, as an amendment, that this Bill be read a third time on this day six months.

REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON ORDINANCES.

The Committee appointed to consider and report upon the mode in which the Ordinances enacted by the Superintendent of the Colony into Provinces, should be printed, have now the honor to recommend the adoption of the plan ensweved in the accompanying resolutions:

That the object of paramount importance in this matter is, the opinion of the Committee, the introduction of the Ordinances in such a manner as will render an acquaintance with their provisions most easy of attainment by all whom they affect. To secure this it is necessary to present them in as collected and concise a shape as is consistent with accuracy, and with the production of any needed reference to their copious or collections of them. A new arrangement and classification of the whole is another object, which by assisting this end. The Committee are therefore recommended to ensure proper the execution from the mass of other documents in which the Ordinances may be found.

It is proposed to reprint the Ordinances from the manuscript copies of them which are requisite, or fit Ordinances to correspond in form, that is to say, the manuscript copies required by reference will be the same and so far as they have proposed to arrange the Ordinances under the heads of their several subjects. Due provision has been made for the addition of new Ordinances in each session of the Council.
