LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

The Hon. Henry John Tancred, Esq., Speaker.

Present:

  • His Honor the Superintendent.
  • The Hon. F. A. Weld, Esq., Colonial Secretary.
  • The Hon. W. Swainson, Esq., Attorney-General.
  • The Hon. J. E. Fitzgerald, Esq.
  • The Hon. J. C. Richmond, Esq.

Absent:

  • The Hon. Dillon Bell, Esq.

The minutes of the last Council were read and confirmed.

Petitions

G. Moore and H. Seymour presented petitions, which were ordered to lie on the table.

Bills

Mr. Attorney-General brought the Ordinance to amend the Dog Nuisance Ordinance of 1844.

Mr. Swainson moved as an amendment that the bill be read that day six months; which was carried on the following division:

Ayes:

  • The Superintendent
  • Messrs. Weld, Swainson, Richmond.

Noes:

  • The Speaker
  • Mr. Fitzgerald

Ordered, that the bill be discharged from further consideration.

Mr. Attorney-General brought up the Report of the Council Committee on the Lunatic Asylum and Gaol Ordinance, which was received.

On the motion of Mr. Attorney-General, ordered, that the Ordinance be reprinted as amended.

The Council adjourned until the next sitting day at 3 o’clock.

Notices

Mr. Attorney-General gave notice that at the next sitting of the Council he would move for leave to bring in the following Bills:

  • A Bill to make provision for the better regulation of Gaols.
  • A Bill to facilitate the recovery of small debts.

Mr. Seymour gave notice that he would move for leave to bring in a Bill to establish a Municipal Corporation in Wellington.

Ordered, that the foregoing be printed by order of His Honor the Superintendent.
