NOTICE.

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 6th April, 1848.

COMPLAINTS having been made of the mode in which the Government brig has been employed in carrying passengers from one settlement to another,
His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor directs it to be notified for general information, that the following Regulations with respect to such passages, (when the Brig is not exclusively required for the service of Government) will in future be strictly enforced and must be adhered to.

1st. All applications for passages must be made, at Wellington, to the Colonial Secretary: at Nelson, to his Honor the Superintendent; and at Wanganui, or other Settlements, to the Resident Magistrate. A written order must be obtained in every case.

2nd. All such applications must be made within 36 hours after the arrival of the Brig.

3rd. The Passage Money, according to the scale given below, must be paid into the Colonial Treasury, and the receipt granted for the same will be the order for the passage.

4th. The passengers must endorse the receipt on leaving the vessel.

5th. The rate of Passage Money is for the present as follows:—

DIETARY FOR EACH ADULT STEERAGE PASSENGER PER DIEM.

1 lb. Fresh or Salt Meat (on alternate days).
1 lb. Biscuit.
½ lb. Flour.
¼ lb. Raisins.
½ oz. Tea.
4 oz. Sugar.

1 lb. Potatoes or Mixed Vegetables.
2 oz. Salt.
½ lb. Rice.
4 quarts Water.

Rations to Women — ⅔ do. to Children from 14 to 7 years — ½ do. for Children under that age.
