PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY.

All Public Notifications which appear in this Gazette, with any Official Signature thereunto annexed, are to be considered as Official Communications made to those Persons to whom they may relate, and are to be obeyed accordingly.

NOTICE.

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 15th June, 1848.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR directs it to be notified, that it is the intention of Government, at an early period, to cause a Census to be taken of the Population of the Province of New Munster.

His Excellency relies with confidence on the willingness of the Inhabitants to afford the information required, and to co-operate with Government in forwarding an object so interesting and important as the one in question.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR has been pleased to direct it to be notified for general information, that he has nominated—

THE HONORABLE LIEUTENANT-COLONEL M’CLEVERTY,

THE HONORABLE THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL, (when appointed), and

HENRY ST. HILL, ESQUIRE,

to be a “Board of Management of the Native Reserves” for that portion of New Munster, which is within the Northern Island of New Zealand.—And

JOHN POYNTER, ESQUIRE,

STEPHEN CARKEEK, ESQUIRE, and

JOHN TINLINE, ESQUIRE,

to be a “Board of Management of the Native Reserves” for the District of Nelson, (including Motueka, &c.)

His Excellency further directs it to be notified, that the duties of the Wellington Board will be carried on, until the arrival of the Attorney-General, by the Members of the Board at present in Wellington.
