Nelson, October 12, 1876.

IT is hereby notified that it is intended, after the
expiration of two months from the date hereof, to
grant Leases for Gold-mining purposes of the Crown
Land, within the District of the Nelson South-west
Goldfields hereinafter described, viz.:—

GREY DISTRICT.

  1. A block of land, containing sixteen acres and
    two roods, more or less, situated at Lang-
    don's Creek. Applied for by John Maunder
    Langdon, for the Rising Sun Quartz-mining
    Company, Cobden. No. 788.

  2. A block of land, containing sixteen acres and
    two roods, more or less, situated at Lang-
    don's Creek. Applied for by Edward
    Masters, for the Jupiter Quartz-mining
    Company, Cobden. No. 787.

  3. A block of land, containing sixteen acres and
    two roods, more or less, situated at Lang-
    don's Creek. Applied for by Francis
    Hamilton for the Grey Valley Quartz-
    mining Company, Cobden. No. 786.

CHARLESTON DISTRICT.

  1. A block of land containing ten acres, more
    or less, situated between Red Jacket and
    Kelly's Terraces. Applied for by Michael
    McGrath, David Shanahan, and Timothy
    O'Brien for the Band of Hope Gold-mining
    Company, Brighton. No. 789.

  2. A block of land containing six acres, three
    roods and eight perches, more or less,
    situated at Kelly's Terrace, south of Brighton.
    Applied for by Samuel McFetrish for the
    Ray of Hope Gold-mining Company
    Brighton. No. 798.

BULLER DISTRICT.

  1. A block of land containing nine acres, three
    roods and eleven perches, more or less,
    situated at Deadman's Creek, between
    Giles and Rochfort Terraces. Applied for
    by James Finlay and others. No. 792.

THE Deputy-Superintendent directs it to be notified
that the order made by two Justices of the Peace
at a meeting held at Motueka in the Province of
Nelson, on the 16th day of August, 1876, to stop up
certain lines of road in the Motueka Highway Dis-
trict, and to substitute certain other lines of road in
lieu thereof, as described in the Government Gazette
(Province of Nelson), of the 30th day of June, 1876,
was confirmed by the Deputy-Superintendent and
Executive Council, in accordance with the provisions
of "The Alterations of Roads Ordinance, 1854," on
the 26th day of September, 1876.

THE Deputy-Superintendent directs it to be notified
that the order made by two Justices of the Peace
at a meeting held at Richmond, in the Province of
Nelson, on the 7th day of August, 1876, to stop up a
certain road in the Upper Motueka Highway Dis-
trict, and to substitute a certain other road in lieu
thereof, as described in the Government Gazette (Pro-
vince of Nelson), of the 5th day of April, 1876,
was confirmed by the Deputy-Superintendent and
Executive Council in accordance with the provisions
of "The Alterations of Roads Ordinance, 1854," on
the 15th day of September, 1876.

THE Deputy-Superintendent directs it to be notified
that, under the provisions of "The Public
Cemeteries Act, 1859," he has appointed the under-
mentioned gentlemen to be Trustees for the manage-
ment of the Riwaka Public Cemetery, viz.:—

Superintendent's Office,
Nelson, October 19, 1876.

PROTECTION is hereby granted, under the provi-
sions of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," to Michael
French, of Reefton, for the term of two years from
the date hereof for a ferry-boat across the left hand
branch of the Inangahua River, about one and a
half mile from Reefton, subject to the following con-
ditions, viz.:—

  1. That a substantial boat shall be placed on
    the river at the site named, within two
    months from this date, and maintained in
    good working order during the term of pro-
    tection.

  2. That a competent ferryman shall always be
    in attendance, and the ferry shall be at all
    times conducted to the satisfaction of the
    Warden of the District.

  3. The Warden of the District may, on being
    satisfied that the ferry is not conducted in
    an efficient manner, and in accordance
    with these conditions, suspend the opera-
    tion of this protection until the matter of
    complaint be removed, and, if the matter of
    complaint be not removed within a reason-
    able time, the Superintendent shall have
    power to cancel this protection.

  4. The tolls to be charged for the use of the
    ferry-boat shall not exceed the following,
    viz.:—

s. d.
Foot passengers, each ... 1 0
Horse and rider ... 2 6
Government officials, includ-
ing Police, Road Overseers,
Postmen, and Laborers,
when on duty ... Free.

  1. This protection shall extend along the river
    for a distance of two miles—that is to say,
    one mile each side of the site of the ferry.

  2. All regulations which may at any time be
    brought into force under Section 19 of the
    "Goldfields Act, 1866," shall be deemed
    applicable to this protection as if it had
    been granted under the same.

  3. This protection shall not be transferred with-
    out the sanction of the Superintendent.
