Lease No. 64 B., containing ninety-nine acres three roods and eighteen perches, more or less, dated October 1, 1874, and granted to George Cameron, of Westport.

THE SUPERINTENDENT directs it to be notified that he has refused to grant the under-mentioned application for an Agricultural Lease, viz.:—
BULLER DISTRICT.
No. 95 B., for three acres one rood and two perches, more or less, situated on the South Bank of the Buller River, about one mile above the Blackwater. Applied for by Frederick Powell, of Blackwater.

BY-LAWS passed by the Motueka Highway Board:—
-
Any person or persons guilty of any of the following offences within the limits of the Motueka Highway district shall, on conviction of any such offence, be liable to forfeit and pay any penalty not exceeding the sum of forty shillings for any one offence.

No person shall place, or cause to be placed, any obstruction in or upon any roadway, street, footpath, or reserve, by allowing any vehicle or animal to remain in, upon, or across the same, or by placing thereon any goods or material of any kind, or by erecting fences in, upon, or across any roadway, street, footpath, or reserve with-out having previously obtained the written consent of the Secretary of the Board.

No person shall place any obstruction in, upon, or across any ditch, drain, creek, river, or water-course of any kind by throwing therein any material whatsoever.

No person shall set fire to any timber, scrub, bush, or other combustible matter which may be liable to damage any road, street, footpath, or reserve.

No person shall remove, or cause to be removed, any soil, gravel, sand, stone, or timber from any roadway, street, footpath, or reserve, nor from the bed or banks of any creek or water-course without having previously obtained the written consent of the Secretary of the Board.

No person shall permit any cattle to stray or depasture, whether under the tendance or control of any person or persons or not, in or upon any road or street, or the sides thereof, within the limits of the Motueka and Riwaka sub-districts, thereby causing, or being likely to cause, any damage to any such road, street, or to any bridge, hedge, bank, fence, or protective work in connection therewith.

The word "cattle" shall, for the purposes of the these By-laws, be deemed to include horses, mules, asses, sheep, goats and swine, of all ages and of either sex, and to apply to any
one of such animals as well as to a mob or herd.

The words "street, road," shall mean a public road or street used for general traffic.

The word "pathway" shall mean all that portion on each side of every street reserved for foot passengers, including a space of ten feet towards the roadway, measured from the line of sections.

The occupier, or in case there shall be no occupier, then the owner of any land upon which a gorse or other hedge shall be grown, adjoining any public road, shall, so soon as the portion of the said road adjoining his said land shall be clear, thenceforward keep the same at all times clear of gorse or other obstructions which it may reasonably be supposed have proceeded from the said hedge; and in case such occupier, or owner as the case may be, shall refuse, or neglect to clear such road, after receiving fourteen days' notice in writing to do so from the Secretary of the Board, he shall be liable to forfeit and pay the penalty as expressed in No. 1 of these by-laws.

WESTPORT COLLIERY RESERVE.
NOTICE is hereby given, that all Persons having, or alleging that they have a claim, to occupy the said Reserve, or any part thereof, or claiming compensation for any interest therein, or in any part thereof, taken or proposed to be taken for the purposes of the Railway from Mount Rochfort Coalfield to Westport or otherwise, in respect thereof, must prepare their claims in duplicate, and leave them with us, the undersigned, Commissioners appointed by His Excellency the Governor to receive, investigation, and report upon the same, at the Office of C. WEBB BOWEN, Esquire, in the Court-House, Town of Westport, on or before the 24th day of November instant: And Notice is also given, that evidence in support of such claims may be preferred in manner aforesaid, will be taken by us on SATURDAY, the 27th day of November instant, at Ten of the clock in the Forenoon, at said Court-House, in the Town of Westport, aforesaid.
