BYE-LAW made by the PANGATOTARA DISTRICT HIGHWAYS BOARD, for the Protection and Preservation of the Banks of Rivers within the said District:—
If any horse, mule, ass, sheep, swine, or other beast or cattle of any kind, shall, at any time after this Bye-law shall come into operation, be found depasturing or being—whether under the tendence or control of any person or persons or not—in or upon any road bounded by any river within the limits of the Pangatotara District, and thereby causing damage to the banks of any such river, or destroying anything that may be placed or planted on such river bank for the protection of the same; the owner of every such horse, mule, ass, sheep, swine, or other beast or cattle of any kind shall be deemed and taken to be guilty of a breach of this Bye-law, and shall, for every such breach, upon conviction thereof, forfeit and pay a penalty of not exceeding Ten shillings for each such animal depasturing or being as aforesaid : Provided that no penalty, upon one such conviction, shall exceed the sum of Forty shillings. Or any such horse, mule, ass, sheep, swine, or other beast or cattle of any kind, found depasturing or being as aforesaid, may be driven to the nearest Public Pound and impounded therein.
