Superintendent's Office, Nelson,
November 8, 1872.
PROTECTION is hereby Granted, under the provisions of the Goldfields Act, 1866, to F. VIOLICH and G. PAILELICH, on the term of Three years from the date hereof, for a Punt Ferry across the Grey River, at the junction of the Little Grey, subject to the following conditions, viz.—

That a substantial Punt shall be placed on the River at the site named, within two months from this date, and maintained in good working order during the term of protection.

That a competent ferryman shall be always in attendance, and the ferry shall be at all times conducted to the satisfaction of the Warden of the district.

The Warden of the district may, on being satisfied that the ferry is not conducted in an efficient manner, and in accordance with these conditions, suspend the operation of this protection until the matter of complaint be removed; and if the matter of complaint be not removed within a reasonable time, the Superintendent shall have the power to cancel this protection.

The tolls to be charged for the use of the punt shall not exceed the following, viz.—

| Empty four-wheeled Waggon, with not exceeding 4 horses | 1 6 |
| Government Officers, including Police, Road Overseers, Postmen, and Laborers, when on duty | 2 6 |
| Horses required by any of the above mentioned Government Officers or persons | Free. |

This protection shall extend along the river for a distance of two miles, that is to say one mile each side of the site of the punt.

This protection shall not have any effect or operation until the punt has been placed on the river in good working order, to the satisfaction of the Provincial Engineer.

All Regulations which may at any time be brought into force under section 13 of "The Goldfields Act, 1866," shall be deemed applicable to this protection as if it had been granted under the same.

This protection shall not be transferred without the sanction of the Superintendent.

IT is hereby notified that it is intended, after the expiration of two months from the date hereof, to grant Leases for Goldmining purposes of the Crown Land within the Nelson South-west Goldfields hereunder described, viz.—
INANGAHUA DISTRICT.

A block of land containing ten acres, more or less, situated at Rainy Creek (Nos. 3 and 4 South), applied for by Joseph Kilgour, Bann Water Company.

A block of land containing thirteen acres and three roods, more or less, situated at Rainy Creek, applied for by James Connolly, Reefton Company.

A block of land containing twelve acres one rood and sixteen perches, more or less, situated at Rainy Creek (No. 1 North and No. 1 South), applied for by John Wallace, Caledonian Company.

A block of land containing fifteen acres and two roods, more or less, situated at Rainy Creek, applied for by John Pooley, Young Republic Company.

A block of land containing nine acres two roods and thirty-four perches, more or less, situated at Rainy Creek, applied for by H. FitzSimmons, Rainy Creek Company.
